What are your favorite nighttime snacks?

Asked by Pachy (18610points) July 14th, 2014

I can make it through most days without pigging out on calories, but in the evenings I often find myself haunting my refrigerator and cabinets for stuff to munch. Will you share your favorite nighttime snack ideas with me—preferably low-calorie ones?

So I guess you don’t want a piece of the blueberry pie I just ate? (By the way, it’s homemade.)

Right now watermelon is at the top of my list. Or my favorite summer beverage of 12 oz.water, ice, fresh bruised mint and lemon balm from my garden, a little squeezed lemon juice and ½ teaspoon of sugar. (There are also the dark chocolate-covered almonds that don’t go amiss, in moderation.)

Popcorn and pop.

I make an ice cream pie with chocolate chip icing and Oreo crust. It is called a mud pie, and it is manna from Heaven.

These biscuits are marketed as breakfast biscuits, but I love to eat them in the evening. They’re like super-healthy cookie crack, Belvita Golden Oat Breakfast Bars

I also like just about any kind of nuts: peanuts, cashews, pistachios, walnuts, almonds.

I have a tendency towards quesadillas for an evening snack. Definitely not low on calories, but high in calcium and vitamin C if you add salsa, which I always do. Bean burritos are also good.

Or if you’re a little bit bold, you might like spicy pickled carrots, the kind you get as a side dish at most Mexican restaurants.

For something a little more healthy, I love rice cakes with a schmear of peanut butter, or a bowl full of fruit: nectarines, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, cherries or pears.

And one of my favorite night time noshes, Grapenuts cereal. With the addition of chopped walnuts and dried cranberries.

Cobbler is a dessert made in heaven (if there was such a place) but that place can be made in my kitchen.

Lots of great snacks here but what I’m really looking for are low-calorie munching things I can eat between 8 and 10 pm.

@Kardamom Especially from wild fresh blackberries!

A pint of local raspberries, blueberries or blackberries, eaten out of hand. berry by berry (and not by the handful. “Restraint” is the motto.)

My snack tonight is two vanilla meal replacements. My supper was a burger and cola.

I don’t snack before bed. A cup of tea is all I need.

A square of frozen dark chocolate.

Thanks, everbybody. Some great ideas here. Now if I can just keep from eating them all at the same time.

Fresh, raw shelled edamame beans; fresh, raw, shelled peas; fresh raw green beans, raw, sliced fennel bulb.

People think of fruit as being a healthy snack, but eating tons of it can pack on weight and can wreak havoc on your blood sugar levels. Nuts and grains are the best thing you can snack on, if you need to. First, try having a cup of caffeine free tea, such as rooibos, chamomile or mint tea and see if you’re still hungry after that.
