Is the number "7" particularly unlucky when it comes to planes?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33158points) July 24th, 2014

Algeria Airlines 5017

Malaysia Airlines 370

Malaysia Airlines 17

What do they have in common? The number 7 somewhere in the flight number.

Coincidence? Or…. malevolent forces?

(however, my theory does not hold up fully—The Taiwanese crash yesterday was flight 222)

Luck has nothing to do with plane crashes. (In my opinion.)

Numerology is a not-too-distant cousin of conspiracy theory. (In my opinion.)

I know! I know! Man, I thought I was the only one who noticed that! It’s like look at all the crashes, then check out the model numbers! Like a million-zillion planes have crashed with model numbers that begin and end with the NUMBER SEVEN!!!!! 707s, 727s, 737s, and even 747s! It’s like these are the only planes that ever crash!!!! You’d think they would stop naming them like that, right? What a bunch of heartless dumbasses!

And they traverse the 7 seas 7 days a week. This has been a wake-up call for me ~

If you stand a plane up on its nose with the tail wing pointing west, in profile, it kinda looks like a 7
