What is pot selling for on the streets in Colorado?

Asked by rojo (24179points) July 24th, 2014

What has the legalization of recpot done to the price of pot sold on the streets? Has it gone up, down or stayed the same?

Are the people who go to the legal sellers the same ones who used to buy illegally or are they the ones who always said they would do it if it were legal and now have the opportunity?

I would imagine it’s gone down! But that’s just a guess.

Since nobody has answered, I’ll give a secondhand answer.
According to priceofweed.com, the cost of weed in Colorado is:
High Quality—$238.18/oz.
Medium Quality—$196.58/oz.
Low Quality—$227.66/oz.

Holy shit!!!

Dutchess_III's avatar

No way…and why would medium grade be cheaper than low grade?

dxs's avatar

I was thinking that. I think it’s because:
a) this is a street price, so it’s not very controlled.
b) there are less samples for the low quality weed.

Why would anyone buy it off the street when they can just go to the grocery store?

I’ve read, and again somebody please step in if you have firsthand knowledge, that it’s more expensive than on the street.

That’s insane. I came from the good old days where you bought “nickle” and “dime” bags. ½ oz was $5.00. A full ounce was $10.00.

That’s crazy. The only time I’ve been involved in sales is when I pitched in $10 to split an eighth that cost $40. An eighth was a lot, even for three people.

It was also, for the most part, worse than what is considered “dirt” today.

Well, I’m not a connoisseur. Wasn’t back in the day, either. But the stuff I smoked most recently (in 2002) didn’t seem any better or any worse than what we smoked back then.

I smoked it during those nickle bag days too. Mine came from bales dropped in an anonymous field by a dark plane at night which came straight from Mexico. It tasted sweet/oily and usually left me feeling like I peed my pants. It took my tinnitis from screaming madness to tolerable and manageable enough to quit smoking and join the military.
It was not dirt.

Jonesn4burgers's avatar

The stuff you smoked, @El_Cadejo, is what we called ditchweed.

But…he didn’t tell us what he smoked @Jonesn4burgers….

Before legalization, about 11 years ago, in CO, a quarter was $75 for high quality. I’ve heard it’s higher now.

I am back home in CO for the time being and I went to my first dispensary today. From my understanding depending on where you go, is going to depend on the prices, for a quarter it was almost $150. Pure craziness I can think of some better ways to spend that money It has been sever months since I was last out here and had the same question. I asked a friend who would sell us weed when I was in high school and she said now she just goes to the dispensary and charges whatever she feels is right. She said on average that she will sell a 1/16 for almost $45

GEEEEEEEEZ!!! I remember the good old days when five of us could share some herb, then go to the quickstop and get burritos, chips, and sodas, All for uner $15.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@Jonesn4burgers I don’t smoke that stuff. Only the best for me ;)

rojo's avatar

I used to smoke whatever I could get my hands on. Mostly Mex. stuff and you had to smoke an entire joint to get off but at $10.00 a bag WTF cared.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@rojo That’s how I felt in Central America. Dirt weed but it was $12.50 an ounce, so could ya really complain?

rojo's avatar

@El_Cadejo, Nope, smoke it and roll another. Everyone had a bag and everyone shared.

Jonesn4burgers's avatar

The good ol’ days. Sigh.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@Jonesn4burgers I don’t know, I’d rather pay a premium for premium than nothing for crap.

Jonesn4burgers's avatar

It was good, usually. Sometimes someone would bring out ditchweed. We paid the same no matter where it came from. One time, at a casual gathering, a friend opened up a briefcase, and asked what we wanted. He had six bags in there, all labeled, each at least a pound. We all agreed, why choose? He rolled one of each. They all went around clockwise, one after another. Sure wish I were in that basement now. My legs would NOT be hurting me like this.
