Do you know where I can find great free online guitar lessons?

I want to learn how to play guitar (not electronic) and I am searching for the best online guitar lessons. Do you have something in your mind?

I second YouTube. I learned using that and chordbook.com as references.

I’m an amateur at guitar, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!

Do you have any favourite youtube channel? Did you have any difficulty in the beginning?

I just youtubed things I wanted to learn, like the chords to a song or how to barre. At first, my fingertips bruised and blistered on both hands. The hardest part is getting past this stage and waiting for your hands to callus; it’ll stop hurting, trust me.

I started off with basic e, g, c, etc. chords. I think that my dexterity in both hands from playing the piano made forming chords, fingerpicking, and moving along the fretboard easier. If may help to improve your dexterity by playing scales and transitioning between chords.

Barreing is really important and took me a while to learn as well. A technique to barreing is instead of having your thumb hanging out next to the low E-string, put it on the back of the neck of the guitar to get more pressure for your index finger (which is the finger that’s doing the barreing).

Lastly, I have no idea how to use a pick (a plectrum). I learned to pick and strum with my hands so that’s what I’m used to. Call me James Taylor. I’m taking a 1-credit intro-guitar class at my school next semester, so I’ll see how that goes. Good luck to you and don’t give up!

Thank you very much! I thought of playing guitar a nice way to express myself and when I found an old guitar, the thought of learning how to play it excited me! Good luck to you too on your class!

I’ve played for over 20 years. If youtube was around then I can’t even imagine what I could have done. Learning TAB is easy and there are plenty of sites that publish any song you could imagine free.

@ARE_you_kidding_me Unfortunately I don’t know if I can compose a good song at that moment but when I get more confident I would like to make my own songs! Thank you! I’ll keep that in mind!

TAB as in guitar notation for songs from other artists available for free. Not for publishing your songs.

Why not post something in the “barter” section of C’sList?
I found a hand drum teacher some years ago on C’sList that bartered with me for some creative help in my field of expertise. Youtube is great too.
