The Great Gatsby

Yeah..watched one the other day, Cinderella Man. It was really striking how perfectly RenĂ©e Zellweger’s face fit the stereotype of the 20’s and 30’s.

The King’s Speech and if you like Colin Firth you might enjoy this little gem that I saw on Netflix called My Life So Far. It has great Scottish scenery. Colin Firth is very naughty though (not in a Rated R kind of way) but he is gorgeous! I’m guessing you don’t care if he’s gorgeous, but the movie is really good.

Memoirs of a Geisha. Good movie, but very different than the book.

Mrs. Henderson Presents I loved this movie!

This one is a little bit older and I haven’t seen it, but I love Django Reinhardt’s music. It was directed by Woody Allen, and although he makes me sick to my stomach, his movies are usually very good so it might be worth a look. It’s called Sweet and Lowdown

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I wept like a baby at the end.

This one is from 1983, but I think it is worth it. Cross Creek(film) It’s about the author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, who wrote The Yearling.

The Aviator(2004_film) about Howard Hughes.

Second vote for Cross Creek. One of my favorites and set in Florida in the 30s. You will like it, Crow.

Martin Scorsese’s Hugo. The trailer is corny, but the film is magical, especially if you are a lover of old cinema (as Scorsese is, of course).

@janbb Why am I not surprised? :D

Get Low

Great cast and great film set in 1930s Tennessee. It was released in 2009.

@jonsblond that is a great one too!

How about rewatching “To Kill a Mockingbird”?

Dutchess_III's avatar

That’s the 40’s or 50’s @janbb.

I was wrong. Set in 1936. Fantastic movie. BUT…it didn’t come out in the “last few years.” Came out in 1960.

@dappled_leaves Terrific performance in it by Robert Duvall.

Depending on what time frame you have in mind for “the last few years”, Tom Hanks in The Road to Perdition.
