Has the Fluther website been acting strangely for you?

Asked by hearkat (22917points) August 22nd, 2014

The Mod Team is aware of the problems and has encountered them ourselves, but it’s been rather sporadic. If you’ve had trouble accessing the site or have been randomly kicked from the chat rooms, would you please help us out?

Several people have told us that they’re able to access the site from their mobile devices, but not their regular computer. What device, operating system and browser were you using when the problem occurred?

A few of the mods have been able to resolve these problems by clearing the cache in their browser. Cache-clearing instructions can be found here: http://www.wikihow.com/Clear-Your-Browser's-Cache. Does that resolve he problem for you?

We appreciate your patience and assistance in figuring this out. Jellies Rule!

Have tried cleaning the cache.

But can it solve the “Question for You” and award problems? I haven’t experienced any chatroom bugs, but these two problems are what I have noticed lately.

I had the one day of an “Over Capacity” message for a few hours, otherwise have been able to access it fine. But as @Mimishu1995 says, the “Questions for You” is totally not functioning and hasn’t been for days.

Other than the broken things on the site (Questions for You, Awards), the only problem I’ve encountered lately was a squid a few days ago. But I see him every once in a while so I thought nothing strange of it.

Working strangely? How about totally f-uped? I get the over capacity notice every time I try to access it. If I hit general it does the same.

@Adirondackwannabe – Please try clearing your cache and post here if that resolves your problems.

We are working on the awards and Qs for You.

ucme's avatar

No, smooth as silk over here.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

That cleared the access up. I had been having to go to history to resolve Neptune.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Just got an internal server error message and had to close it out and reenter fluther.

filmfann's avatar

I have cleared the cache, and I am still not showing any additional “Just For You” questions.

janbb's avatar

@filmfann i think they are saying that’s a separate issue they are trying to figure out.

Those of you who were or still are having access problems, could you please tell us your OS and browser info so we can see if there’s a pattern?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

OS is windows 7, browser is MSN through Bing.

gailcalled's avatar

OS is Mac 10.8.5; browser is Safari. I had to slip in the back door via Fluther.com on Facebook just now. Access issue.

gailcalled's avatar

I can navigate the site if I am careful. When I click on the “home” button, I get bounced back to Neptune. So I stick to using “general,” “social” and “meta” or a “previous question” link on my history menu.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@gailcalled I cleared my browsing history and it fixed that.

gailcalled's avatar

If I clear the history, I have no access at all now. (Unless I return to the facebook question and use that as a gateway; it is very mysterious.)

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Clear it, then try it. It works. Or I’ll help you get back in.

gailcalled's avatar

I just did and I did and it does. (Parse that!)

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

So it’s working okay?

gailcalled's avatar

It seems so…for now. Thanks.

zenzen's avatar

I havent had any. I am on an ipad on safari.

CuriosityKills's avatar

Well, it just happened to me on my iPhone using Chrome for iOS. It happened in Mobile and Desktop mode, and clearing the cache alone didn’t fix it, I had to Clear All.

The Web site is fine to me, nothing weird. Now some of the people…..... ~~

No problems here, whether with Questions for You, Chat, or the site in general. It’s working fine both on my laptop (Win 7, IE 11 and Chrome) and on my iPad.

No significant problems for me (other than needing to log in again just to get rid of the ads.)

I don’t really pay attention to the awards or the Q For You since I just work my way through all the new Qs one section at a time.

I’m on my old iPhone 3G and Safari. I can’t do links but that has nothing to do with Fluther but with the old phone OS.

Other than that, everything’s okey dokey.

Yes, but even stranger to me is how agitated some people get when technology fails them, even momentarily. Anything having to do with the Web (or anything else involving a computer, for that matter) simply just doesn’t work exactly the way we want/expect from time to time. But the earth keeps turning.

I observed a strangeness!

In the list of General questions, I spied what I thought was a new question, called “Is it worth my asking price?” (or words to that effect). But when I clicked the question, it was one that I’d seen earlier in the day: Is it worth selling my phone?

It makes me think that a prior title change had been reverted or something.

A few weeks ago, one of @Espiritus_Corvus’s old questions showed up in my Questions for You tab. Nobody sent it to me, and the question was asked a few months ago in March. Other Jellies had answered it around the time I received it as well. It’s the only time an old question has been suggested for me.

The awards have been back on! Yay!

Horrible trouble on my iPad when using Brighthouse (Time Warner) connection. If I switch to stealing my neighbors wifi it’s fine. I do it just to see what is going on, but I prefer to not use anyone else’s wifi for security reasons. Most frustrating was ages not loading, and also typing out an answer and the answer never posts, it just disappears.

I used futher a little on my iPhone, which I almost never do, but I wanted to see if it was working there, and then later that day I started having phone problems, which made me nervous so I don’t want to risk fluther did something to the phone.
