Do you get many premonitions, and if so, how do you react to them?

Asked by Scorpionvenin14 (31points) September 6th, 2014

Do you tell people about them, or do you keep it secret to see if the premonition comes true?

My heartfelt gratitude goes to one and all.

I tend to keep them to myself so as not to get suspicious reactions. If it does come out, I mention it to very close family members.

Oh yes.
I had this premonitive dream depicting a global nuclear holocaust with subsequent alien invasion and enslavement of humanity by superior aliens.
Should happen any second now.

I have had the odd dream that has come true the next day, sometimes they are mundane or pleasant things but I have had a few dreams that have come true that haven’t been nice and so i tend to worry every time I have an unpleasant dream.

Every so often I will also have a gut feeling or thought about something and then it will happen.

I try to put all these things down to coincidence and generally don’t tell people. It’s not so etching I enjoy and I do not intend to nurture this ability (if you can call it that). I am sure everyone has these kind of “premonitions”, some more often than others and there must be some scientific theory. I try not to buy into the whole psychic gift thing.

I had one premonition once and it was scarily accurate. 7 January 1989 I woke up and, as I often did, put the TV on to listen to the news, then I dozed off. When I woke again properly, I remembered hearing an article in the news about a plane crash. But strangely, there wasn’t any mention of a plane crash at all for the rest of the day, and I realised I must have dreamed it.

The following day a Boeing 737 crashed onto the M1 motorway in Leicestershire killing 47 people.

I have had some weird things happen that maybe one could call a premonition. When the thoughts come to me I don’t think it is a premonition, but then when it happens, or something happens that has a weird connection to what had popped into my mind I take note.

My aunt has always told me I was psychic. I have had odd psychic like things happen. Mostly, I just think I am open, talk to people a lot, have an analytical mind, and am intuitive, and it adds up to having coincidences happen more often to me than the average person maybe.

I believe in coincidences but not premonitions.

No. I don’t believe in premonitions, fate, and fortune telling.

@downtide Don’t plane crashes happen something like every other day, on average?

JLeslie's avatar

@longgone Commercial jets it’s more like 15–20 a year around the world. If you include all planes then its about every second to third day there is a crash I think, or 100 and something a year.

^ Ah. Interesting!

downtide's avatar

@longgone they probably do, but ones in the UK or significant enough to get on BBC Breakfast Time news are much less frequent.

@longgone I should add some of the jets are fairly small commuter jets. Some jets the world doesn’t hear much about I think. At least in America a small jet flying within Germany for instance might get a mention on our news, but it doubtfully would be dwelled on for more than a day or so. I don’t know how other countries might report it.

@downtide Fair enough!

@JLeslie Same here, yes.
