Jazz pianist Joe Sample was co-founder of the legendary jazz-funk band the Jazz Crusaders (later known as the Crusaders). If you don’t know of Sample, get hold of his wonderful 1980 album Spellbound and sample some of his wonderful playing. (The other founding member, Wayne Henderson, died in April.)

I know of him a little. My father had a copy of Spellbound, I believe.

Simply as a lover of jazz, I will certainly wish him a fond farewell.
