Why can't I find any record of this accident I witnessed?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46812points) September 17th, 2014

It was pretty bad. A woman either had a stroke, or was intoxicated, and she wobbled her car down Main street, drifting all over the place, almost hitting several people, then turned on 12th and made it 3 more blocks, with her right tires up on the curb much of the time. It ended when she slammed into a parked pick up and shoved the truck about 15 feet.
Five people showed up at the wreck right after we did. They were people she had almost hit on Main.

Why can’t I find a police record on it?

Maybe she was related to someone in the police department and they are covering it up?

It seems like I can NEVER find info on the things I witnessed.

Did this just happen within the last several hours?

It takes a while for paperwork and reports to be processed.

Did it merit a camera crew and reporter for the local news station?

It happened, August 28th, I believe.

No, didn’t merit a camera crew or a reporter, but I acted as both!

If you have pictures, can you make out the plate numbers of either the car or the pickup? Who does the towing in your town for wrecked vehicles? There should be lots of leads for you to pursue. Just talking to the shop owners in the neighborhood should help you quite a bit.

Oh, I don’t need to pursue leads. I mean, I imagine I could find out pretty easily. I just don’t know why there isn’t a public accident report on it.
