Importing Gmail contacts from one account to another?

Asked by janbb (62858points) October 8th, 2014

I set up a second Gmail account in my new name but can’t see a way to import the contacts from the old one so can’t use it so far. I can see where to set up forwarding and also where to import contacts from another provider. But it seems to say you can’t import from one Gmail account to another. Am I missing something?

1. Go to your old gmail account, click the dropdown arrow in the upper left “Gmail” to get to contacts.
2. Click the “More [downarrow]” button.
3. Select “Export”
4. Choose which contacts you want to export.
5. Select “Google CSV format (for importing into a Google Account)” and save the exported file.

6. Go into the contacts section in your new gmail account.
7. Click the “More [downarrow]” button.
8. Select “Import”
9. Click “Choose File” and browse to that exported csv file.
10. Click “Import”
