What are you going to be reading over the holiday period?

Asked by Earthbound_Misfit (13177points) December 2nd, 2014

Christmas is coming and with it (I hope) some time to read some of your favourite books without worrying about all the things we have to do in life.

So what’s on your holiday reading list?

I want to read

The Rosie Effect: Don Tillman 2 by Graeme Simsion
The Sound of One Hand Clapping by Richard Flanagan (author of this year’s Man Booker)
The Golden Age by Joan London.

What’s on your reading list for the Christmas break?

I’m in a book group. Last month, the book was Defending Jacob. It’s a great book and I didn’t finish in time for the group, so I am still working on it. For the next group meet, the book is The Husband’s Surprise. That’s in January. I am hoping to finish Defending Jacob in time so I have at least a month to read The Husband’s Surprise. I also have Gone Girl, want to see the movie, probably will see movie before reading book, but definitely want to read book.

I usually reread Susan Cooper’s The Dark is Rising sequence over the holidays along with whatever else comes down the pike.

Filth, Porno and Skag Boys by Irvine Welsh. A friend said she’d get those for me for Xmas, so I’ll be reading that if I get them.

I don’t know yet. I found a place where I can read electronic books online. There are lots of them for free. If none of those excite me, I will work my way up the price ladder. I started to read one I was enjoying, but I forgot to put it in my library, and now I don’t remember the name. I am sure to stumble across something I can enjoy.

Hopefully I will be gifted some books for Christmas, I will read those. If not, I’ll treat myself to something new for my Kindle.

Thank you everyone. Some great books there to add to my list. Although my Kindle is teeming with books to read. It’s way too easy to add books to your Kindle @downtide. I hope the blood pressure figures are boring @SecondHandStoke and that Fluther isn’t @JLeslie.

I’m reading Foxglove Summer by Ben Aaronvitch – if you like magic and if you like police procedurals then you’ll love this series!

The first book in the series is out in the US and is called Midnight Riot (it is called Rivers of London here). It’s got to the point where I’m so addicted to these books that I have to pre-order them.

@Stinley Oh, interesting – he used to write for Doctor Who, according to Amazon.

I am thinking about re-reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It is by far my most favorite book ever and have read it many times. I love it!

Hopefully by then I’ll be able to move on to The Gallic War, by Julius Caesar.
