How old were you when you first recall finding people physically attractive and who was your childhood crush?

Asked by Earthbound_Misfit (13177points) December 16th, 2014

I can remember as a very young child having a crush on certain actors. So I fancied Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum) from The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (better known to you young uns as Ducky from NCIS) and Craig Stirling (Stuart Damon) from The Champions, and Captain Crane (David Hedison) from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

How old were you when you consciously remember finding someone physically attractive? And who did you have a childhood crush on? I’m not talking about when you were a teenager. I’m thinking younger than that.

When I was 3 I had a crush on David Cassidy. I was a member of the David Cassidy Fan Club and had his posters on my wall. I used to love watching the Partridge Family and I had their records.

At the same time, I had a crush on a local teenager who lived in our building. I used to jump up and down and clap when I saw him because I could not contain my glee.

David Cassidy was hot! I can’t comment on the neighbour :D

I think my first crush was on a girl in 2nd or 3rd grade. I can still vaguely picture her in my mind’s eye but and I can still call up her name even in my waning years.

I was hot for a girl in my first grade class: Patti . It was clear she liked me too because we always ended up playing together. We also tried to be hand holding partners whenever our class walked 2×2 in the hallways.
Remember? “Boys in this line. Girls in this line. Now hold hands and follow me.”
We were BF and GF until 8th grade.

When I was 5 I had a crush on a cartoon character. I don’t know why but he was pretty hot. Too bad I never knew who he was since he only appeared once.

I found people attractive before I had crushes. I thought my second grade teacher was really pretty. In sixth grade there was a boy who I thought was cute. I never really crushed hard on any boys though. I flirted with boys here and there, but never worried about actually going out with them.

As far as actors and singers I never understood the Shaun Cassidy obsession. He was the Cassidy a lot of my friends had posters of. I thought Parker Stevenson was better looking of the two Hardy Boys. Still, I never crushed or fantasized about any famous men.

My first real life crush happened when I was 11. There was this guy who made my heart beat faster. As it turned out, he was the first guy that I kissed and oh my, that was something. Upon review of that first kiss, he was pretty darn good at it.

The first that I can recall would be Ricky Schroder in Silver Spoons. I was 11 when I started watching the show and I quickly fell for the cute blond who was about the same age as me.

Sixth grade. Angela Cartwright, who was an actress on the original Lost in Space – see the girl on the far left

@elbanditoroso Good choice, although I favored Judy. Surely Maj West was both luckiest and unluckiest guy in the solar system. As the only worthwhile, non-family, male member of the crew it had to have been understood by all that he’d be responsible for impregnating both Judy and Penny if they had any hope of establishing a successful space colony.
And yet he was never alone with either long enough to enjoy even a second’s worth of tumescence between his thighs.
“Oh Don! I’d love to! But my parents are in the bunk below and my PIA brother Will only sleeps when he’s supposed to be standing watch. Besides, my sister would be jealous – unless you took us both in your manly arms and…..”
Poor, poor, frustrated Don.

@LuckyGuy – never thought of it quite that way :-) But you’re right,

Physical attraction didn’t really start until middle school for me (age 11); I never really had crushes on celebrities. My first real crush was a boy at school that I found especially cute.

I’ve no idea what age I was, but she was called Paula & made my penis go hard.

My first crush was in Zimbabwe, I was 13. Then called Rhodesia. I was walking home (the details are fuzzy) and I met a policeman who was probably around 18. He had a bicycle! He was blonde, that is all I can recall of him. I do recall not sleeping well that night, I he was so on my mind.

@elbanditoroso Remember “The Green Lady” in Lost in Space? I still have a crush on her.

flutherother's avatar

My first crush was with a girl in Primary 7 and her name was Doreen. I can still picture her. We would have been about nine or ten years old at the time. She never knew how special she was in my eyes. It is strange you should ask this question as I thought of asking it a few days ago but never got around to it.

Hahahaha, I had forgotten all about this. Levar Burton, probably when I was about 5. I thought it was MAGIC that he was on both Reading Rainbow and Star Trek TNG, my two favorite shows at the time.

I think I was 10. I could never decide whether I liked Ginger or Mary Ann the best.

Still can’t decide.

longgone's avatar

Hm, I think I’m unusual here. I didn’t have any crushes until I was about seventeen. At least, nothing I’d consider a crush. Liking people, sure.

JLeslie's avatar

@longgone I’m always shocked to hear about boys and girls having strong crushes or even boyfriends or girlfriends in primary school. In NY I don’t remember anything like that growing up. When I moved at age 9 to another state I was shocked kids my age thought in terms of boys and girls like that. In NY that was for the older teenagers.

longgone's avatar

^ I wonder how much of it is just due to society (other children) expecting crushes. I really have no idea, but it did always make me feel “different”.

elbanditoroso's avatar

@bossob – Mary Ann – without a doubt

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

About first grade I started to have “girlfriends” I was not actually attracted in a sexual way until about sixth grade. There was no first crush, it was any girl that simply walked by.

JLeslie's avatar

@longgone In America there are cultural differences from one part of the country to another. I’m sure that must be true in most countries. I wasn’t very curious about boys. My first kiss was a spin the bottle game in sixth grade and I did not want to play. I let a boy feel under my shirt, because I knew friends were doing it. That was when I was in 7th grade I think, maybe 8th. I dated the first time in 9th grade. I wasn’t the aggressor though. I never pursued any boys. I think a lot if girls are just doing what everyone else is doing.

longgone's avatar

^ I never was one to do what everyone else was doing. I was an extremely principled kid, as well as a stubborn one.

Great answers here. I so enjoyed reading people’s stories about long ago loves. My first boyfriend was the boy across the road. We grew up together and I remember the adults cooing about how cute we were. If only they knew what we did behind the garden wall!

JLeslie's avatar

@longgone I avoided a lot of situations when I was young. Like I didn’t want to drink, so I almost never went to parties where I knew there would be drinking.

I gave into peer pressure on some things but not others. I think the pressure is more in our own minds. How we perceive peers are looking at us and what they expect us to do or not wanting to feel embarrassed.

I was very young in my grade, so some of the kids were ahead of me with the hormones most likely.

longgone's avatar

^ We were very much alike!

bossob's avatar

@elbanditoroso Good choice. Ginger was probably too high maintenance.

anniereborn's avatar

I think I was about 9 or 10. I had a “boyfriend” when I was in 4th grade. He would give me gum.
My first celebrity crush was when I was about that same age. Shaun Cassidy. My sister took me to see him in concert. I will never forget that :)

LuckyGuy's avatar

@bossob Mary Ann for sure! Get Ginger wet and she’d melt.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I was very young, maybe four or five years old, and I remember finding the secretary at my school beautiful.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Sweet @OpryLeigh. :-)

To @LuckyGuy, @bossob, and @elbanditoroso, I’m going to go with Ginger because I think she was smokin’.

I had a girl crush on Alexandra Bastido from The Champions too.

Coloma's avatar

Haha..oh man, time warp to the 10th power. I was crazy in “love” with Davey Jones from the Monkees at about age 7–8. I remember being absolutely giddy after watching that show and my little girl brain had some pretty imaginative fantasies of romance. lol
