Can`t open excel files by clicking on the file icon?

Asked by Tlacelel (5points) January 12th, 2015

Hello.
When I try to open excel file by clicking on the file icon I get the next message:”There was a problem sending the command to the program”. But if I open the file under Excel – Open, it opens fine.
I read some topics describing the similar problems, but I found the same error only relating to Word. I tried open and repair function, disabled all add-ins as it advised at one forum. Even reinstall Office 2007, but nothing change. Can somebody help me in my issue?

Go into Control panel, and look at Default Programs. That area is what tells the system what programs are supposed to open files with certain suffixes (like XLS or XLSX for Excel, for example).

It sounds like somehow the setting for Excel got corrupted. Find XLSX on the list in Default Programs, and follow the steps to reassign it the proper default.

As far as I know it has helped to many people, so try the following:
In Excel menu click File, then Options – Advanced and scroll down to General. You will see “Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)” option. So, the error message must stops appearing after you uncheck that option.

Maybe there you will find any tipp that will help.
