What does CoQ10 do?

Asked by josie (30934points) January 21st, 2015

All my friends take this stuff.

They have talked me into taking it too, along with all the other stuff they have talked me into taking.

Is there any evidence that it does anything?

WEbMD overview of CoQ10 doesn’t think much of it.

Why are you letting your friends talk you into taking “stuff” without doing the research?

josie's avatar

@gailcalled
Peer pressure
I guess you would have to know me and my friends.

Just say “no” and use the money for something more productive, like a year’s supply of kale and cruciferous vegetables.

What are some examples of “other stuff”?

@gailcalled
That’s exactly what I talked THEIR sorry asses into eating.
However, They only do it when I’m around.
Otherwise I am sure it’s KFC and McDonalds
I do my best

@josie. How do you reconcile “I do my best” with my friends talking me into taking “all the other stuff”?

My wife takes it to help replace things that the statin drugs she takes (for thyroid problems) remove.

some people on cholesterol meds actually need it.

@ARE_you_kidding_me My wife also takes cholesterol medicine, so maybe that’s for that.

CoQ10 is useful for those of us who suffer from migraines. That’s the only claim that has actually been substantiated in any scientifically meaningful way, but the fact that I’m typing this instead of lying on the floor in the fetal position sobbing is anecdotal corroboration that it does work for that.

Unless you suffer from migraines though, there’s no proven benefits.
