I try to use only my interest or knowledge in the topic as my guide. Who asks the question is not an issue for me.

If the question is one I want to answer, I’ll answer it but I generally find that idiotic people ask idiotic questions.

I answer questions I feel like answering. I don’t really care who asks and I certainly answer questions posed by people I’m not overly fond of.

People have always said that if they don’t like a particular jelly, they won’t answer their questions & this has always struck me as counter productive, if not a little crass.
This is a question generated environment after all, I answer regardless of my feelings for an individual, not important at all.

I go for the subject matter. I may be a little slow to choose a Q by someone I’ve known to be inflammatory (on purpose) or just plain misguided in the past, but If I’m interested in the subject, I’ll usually join in.

If I find a Q interesting and/or I have something to contribute, I’ll answer regardless of who asked the Q. You never know who else will be reading it and find it helpful either now or in the future.

I do generally tend to avoid hypothetical scenarios which are fairly ridiculous and there are a few people who tend to ask a lot of them. But it’s the Q itself rather than the asker which I find off-putting.

There is no-one whose questions I will ignore on principle. There are simply threads which don’t appeal to me.

Here’s a twist on the question. Anyone else notice when users answer a Q with an opinion of the asker? They have no helpful answer, just an opinion about their distaste for the asker.

@jonsblond Sometimes, it’s not distaste for the asker, it’s distaste for the question.

A distaste for a question that might otherwise be considered legit had it been asked by someone else?

This is why I try to keep my answers as neutral as posssible, focusing only on the questions and not on the askers.
