Delayed reg. voicemail alert on the iPhone?

Do any of you other iPhone owners experience a delayed regular voicemail alert on your iPhone? Upon a missed call, the iPhone alerts me of a new voicemail 3–5 min after.

Sometimes, depending on my signal strength, voice mails get delayed up to a half hour. My house sits right at the edge of a dead zone according to AT&T’s coverage map. 3G would help but I can’t justify the upgrade right now.
