Buying phones on ebay?

All right, I have a lame phone that came free with my plan with Verizon. I really want a new one, but my contract doesn’t end until fall 09 and buying directly from Verizon is ridiculously expensive. A friend said I could get a phone on ebay, take it to the Verizon store and then have them put it on my plan and whatever.
I’m just wondering if anyone has actually done this, because I don’t wanna spend a bunch of money and then have Verizon tell me I’m SOL.

I bought a phone from eBay. It wasn’t an unlocked one, still locked to the T-Mobile network, so I didn’t even have to take it in. I just stuck in my SIM and it worked. I bought it brand new and it works perfectly – but I got it for like $150 less because I bought it from a person and not T-Mobile. Good luck!

My friend bought phones from eBay. 3 to be exact. The first 2 died. Or were on their way to dying. Be picky and careful when looking for cheap cell phones on eBay.
