Boys names for a novel?

Asked by lugerruger (785points) February 8th, 2015

My friend is writing a novel and she isn’t sure what to name a male character. This character is going to be the brother of two other characters named Maia and Holly. So something similar to Maia and Holly would be great!
I will pass all ideas onto my friend, and hopefully there will be one she likes. Thanks in advance,

Is the character American?

The Social Security Administration web site gives popular names by year, decade, state, etc.

@jaytkay thanks, will check that out

Are Maia and Holly similar? One sounds Asian or Polynesian to me and the other English speaking.

What country does the story take place and what nationality are the parents?

This site is also good for some inspiration for a good name (provided that your character isn’t an Asian)

Noah
I can imagine someone who calls their children Maia and Holly using this name for a boy.

Noah sounds good.

@JLeslie The country takes place in Australia.
Well, Maia and Holly are the names of two of my friends and they are twins so the same parents named both of them so they should be similar…

@Mimishu1995 I have seen that site before and I use it quite often for my books but for some reason I guess I forgot…

Leon, Shannon, Dale, Jethro, Nick

When I write fiction, I pay attention to the credits of movies I watch: Wonderful first and last names, there, many of them unusual.

They should be similar? What does that mean? Holly to me is a white Christian name. Holly is a tree associated with Christmas. Maia to me is like I said Asian or Polynesian sounding. I guess if you change the i to y it’s like the Indians the Maya or Mayans. In Hebrew Mayim, or I guess you could write it Mayam or Maiam, is water.

My friend decided on Jasper.
