Will any brand tablet work with my cell phone plan?

Asked by ItalianPrincess1217 (11979points) February 21st, 2015

I have cell service with AT&T. I received a free tablet when I bought my phone and I signed up for the tablet data for $10 a month. Unfortunately the tablet is completely broken. So I now pay the $10 data plan with no tablet. I will probably buy a new tablet soon to add to my plan again but does it need to be a tablet specifically from AT&T or can it be any brand from any store?

To use the AT&T data plan, you need a tablet with a SIM for 3G or 4G (meaning cellular) connectivity.

It’s exactly the same feature you need if you want to use a cell phone on AT&T.

A lot (most?) tablets do not have 3G or 4G. For example, if you look at iPads, they have two types – “Wi‑Fi” and “Wi‑Fi + Cellular”

They all have WiFi, which you can get free lots of places with not data plan from anybody.

Figure on paying at least $200 for an approved AT&T tablet from them, you already have the plan so there no discount. There are units like Samsung Galaxy Tab® 2 10.1 that cost $450 or iPad for about the same.
@jaytkay the issue with OP is she is paying a monthly data plan bill.

You need one that is compatable with AT&T.
