What do the sound effects do on the iPod Touch?

Asked by bugmenot (140points) July 14th, 2008 from iPhone

You get the choices,
off,
speaker,
headphones,
both
I don’t get what they do, other than making a clicking sound when you type. Do they do anything else like make a sound for IM alerts and stuff? Do they do anything else other than making that annoying sound?

Nope. The speaker on the iPod touch is only capable of basic clicks and beeps, designed to aid the UI. I think it sucks, and that Apple should add a proper external speaker. It would make the iPod touch so much better, it’s untrue.

I do like that the mail now makes a beep sound when you get an email, that’s nice, unfortunately it only works sometimes.
