Can U-Lock Keys Be Replaced without Numbers or Registration?

I’m sure this has happened to many cyclists. The keys for your lock are lost, or the key is bent. You didn’t bother to register them, or you have subsequently lost all material about it because the lock is at least 7 years old. I’m wondering what the next best steps to take for a replacement key. Can locksmiths help me? If so, what kind of locksmith? If I do have a copy of a key, can I get a copy from a locksmith?

A lot of questions there, and if any can be answered, it would be greatly appreciated.
