I just joined. How do I add topics?

Asked by OnlyMyOpinion (37points) May 27th, 2015

I see that I can search for topics that I am interested in, but is there a list of topics somewhere? How can everyone list topics in their own words, and have them come together? (i.e.: I might be interested in any of the following: education, elementary education, math education, teacher training, curriculum, school administration, tutoring, Montessori, homework, learning styles, student autonomy, etc. How would I indicate a “cluster” of interests, without aimlessly listing every permutation of every word?)

The topics don’t necessarily get so specific; they are used for funneling questions to you. You probably just would want to list “education” as one of your topics.

When asking a question, if you click on the topics button under “Add topics” and start typing a word, a list of the established topics will come up and you can choose one.

There are not many questions being asked daily so you probably can scan for relevant questions fairly easily.

Thank you for your help!

I’ve been on Reddit for years, so, I guess I’m trying to figure out the similarities / differences between the two….

Is there anything here like “sub-reddits”?

Why have I never heard of this site before today?

It’s never been a big site and has gotten smaller over time – but with a very vocal and loyal core of members.

Using the topics in your profile, certain questions will appear in your “Questions for You” but you can also just peruse all the questions from the top Menu. As you answer questions, more areas of interest will be added for you.

I just don’t understand how I actually list topics in my profile…

Also, thanks, @chyna!

@OnlyMyOpinion In my profile, I don’t have the topic called “topics”, but here it is at the bottom of your question. As I hover my cursor over your “topic” icon, I get a little window that says, “Add topic”. If I click on it, I’ve added it to my profile.

If you slide down on the front page about halfway down, there is a list of topics you can click on and add. Also, if you click on someone’s name and go to their profile, you can look through their topics and add any of theirs that interest you.

Welcome to Fluther! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Once you’ve added topics (and Jellies to your Fluther), the “Questions for You” tab on the top right of the webpage , just below the search bar, should light up with questions that you may be able to give insight on.
