Ipod touch new mail sound?

Asked by bpeoples (2551points) July 17th, 2008

I have an ipod touch, now with 2.0 goodness, and really like that there are keyclicks when I type, and like that the alarms make lots of noises.

However, when it gets a new mail, it makes this horrible happy beeping noise. So for now, all noises stay off. Is there a way to make it NOT beep for the mail app, but still make the helpful keyclicks and alarms?

Go to Settings > Sounds and tweak it to your preference! (At least, that’s how it works on the iphone.. I assume it’s the same for the ipod touch)

Sadly, that doesn’t do it on the ipod!

The only sounds I could find are Settings -> General -> Sound effects, where my options are:

Off
Speaker
Headphones
Both

Yes that is possible, go into your settings, fetch new data, and set it to “manually” at the very bottom.

or go into advanced (at very very bottom, scroll down), select your email you don’t want it to make a beep sound, and select “Manual”

@XCNuse—great idea, but I actually want the ipod to get the new mail so I can read it when offline (e.g., during my wifi-less commute), so I can’t just have it sync manually.

Then you’re going to have to turn “speaker” sound off.

The first time I heard it it freaked me out, but I kinda like it when I’m not around my laptop, but I mean it’s just a beep, if it’s in a pocket you can hardly hear it.
