Would you ever adopt one of your internet handles as your legal name?

If you were to do so, how much trouble would that name cause?

Hmmmm…Yet Another User…Yet A. User…Yet User…Mr. User…Uncle Yet…

I’m not sure if I could ever get used to that!

elbanditoroso's avatar

Why do you think it isn’t?

No, but I remember a guy in our stockroom at work, wanted to change his name to “Boom Boom.” That was forty years ago.
He went as far a getting a court date and the judge refused to hear his request. Background he was African-American and had an Afro hairdo with the back in half inch sawtooth. ==> ^v^v^v^v^

I think I would actually enjoy Zen Velo as a name, and here in the San Francisco Bay Area, it might seem a bit pretentious but certainly not considered unusual.

Simone de Beauvoir did just that. Her given name was Alana, or something close to it.

No. To employ any pseudonym currently in use for matters of importance would be a foolish choice, when adoption of a new one is relatively simple. In fact for serious matters, it would seem prudent to devote as much effort as required to obscure one’s identity to the level of anguish and repercussions resulting were it to be revealed.

I’m more likely to adopt a cross eyed giraffe with a knot in its neck.

No.

If I did the process by phone, I’d basically be paying $$$$ for the pleasure of listening to on-hold muzak for about 6 aggregate hours, .

Perhaps I could do it all online, but I have more than enough other items on my to-do list anyway, and none of them involve unnecessarily inconveniencing the people that would have to deal with it.

I wouldn’t, but if I did it wouldn’t be much of a problem. I looked it up, there are people named Symbeline. Although I’m assuming people would constantly ask me if the name ends with line or lean.

cookieman's avatar

Mr. Cookie Man is my legal name.

Dutchess_III's avatar

And I am really a Dutchess.

dxs's avatar

No. After all these years I still value my anonymity.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

No. I don’t think that would work well for me at all.

Mimishu1995's avatar

No, because I would be mistaken for a Japanese.

Adagio's avatar

@Earthbound_Misfit oh I don’t know, Ms Misfit sounds rather fun.

“And your doctor will be Dr. Misspegasister28!”

I don’t think that would work very well.

jonsblond's avatar

Nope. I’d never get to hear “Dammit Janet” again.

downtide's avatar

I actually did this, well half a name. My Second Life avatar is called Lewis Luminos and when I changed my real name at the start of my transition I picked Lewis (my original surname also begins with L but isn’t Luminos).
