I have two cats. Both fixed females. Both indoor cats. Should I find a male cat to give them some action? This is not a joke.

Assuming the vet didn’t have Parkinson’s they should be able to get some loving without risk.

They are indoors all the time and maybe they would enjoy some sex. If no kittens what is the harm?

Seems like the standard dream situation for any male cat.

The common wisdom seems to be that after spaying, the cats will have no interest in sex – but part of me wonders if this is based on a puritanical human ideal. Perhaps a vet will be along to answer the question based on science. :)

Cat sex is painful for the females. The male cats have barbs on their penises. Beyond that, I doubt they would have any interest after being spayed. I don’t know about the boy cats after being neutered.

Cats aren’t like people or Dolphins. They don’t “do it” for fun. A spayed female doesn’t experience estrus, and has no interest in copulating.

@stanleybmanly But apparently, fixed males do have interest in copulating, sometimes. I’m not sure the same holds true for females.

@anniereborn “Cat sex is painful for the females… I doubt they would have any interest”
This sounds a bit like anthropomorphism to me. It’s not like they can reason it out. We don’t know that pain is a sufficient deterrent to instinct.

@dappled_leaves I’m gonna guess once they are spayed and no longer go into heat, that “instinct” is gone.

No, don’t bother. Introducing a male cat into the mix would just cause more problems that it helps resolve. Like many females, they would probably be just as interested in cuddling as coitus, give them a big stuffed teddy bear.

When the females are spayed, they’re not having sex for fun. They won’t be receptive and there will be no hormones that a male will smell that will make him interested in them. When you get a male, unless you neuter him, he’ll be pissing all over your house.

No. Cats do not have “recreational” sex, and would be more likely to fight than anything else.

(Have you ever wondered why there’s so much screaming during cat sex? This might have something to do with it. Not cool.)

Syz is the animal scientist/behaviorist confirming what the previous answers have pointed out. There would be no point to getting a male cat specifically for the reason you stated.

Besides, there are already plenty of mixed sex cat households where all are fixed and there is no “action” of that type going on.

And you definitely don’t want an un-neutered male in your house. Not only will they spray and piss everywhere, but it smells really strong and horrible. Really much different from a fixed male. Again, no point to it unless you’re a professional breeder.

I would not recommend it. By now the two females have established their own routines and defined “their” space to each other. Plus, even after neutering, tomcats are all about defining and defending what they see as their turf.

Two pussys to fuck, you wish. This is not a joke either.
