Do you have experience of transporting a bulldog on a plane?

Asked by philiprowell (23points) July 19th, 2008 from iPhone

I’m thinking of taking my bulldog to Europe – about a ten-hour flight. I heard that the breed doesn’t do too well on planes, and that some airlines won’t transport them because there have been tragedies with their inability to breathe. Anybody here have any stories to tell about this subject?

I don’t recommend airline transportation for pets under any avoidable circumstances, and certainly not for bulldogs. Not only does their airway restriction limit their breathing, it makes them poor thermoregulators. Heat stroke is a serious risk.

Yes – and I know we are not supposed to be self promotional – but I wrote up a whole thing with pointers here – http://thegreenbrideguide.blogspot.com/search/label/Pets

Hope it helps!

what is your bulldog going to do in Europe?

One of my British friends who was in the U.S. just took her Spinone to Spain. After extensive research, she found that dog shipping companies are much better than handling the transport than passenger airlines and safer.

I don’t know if that would be good enough for your bulldog, though.
