How much is a one bedroom apartment where you live?

Around here, southern NY, it’s about 1200 and up, easily. NYC, 3k and up.

$300—$500 – Colorado (the $300 prices tend to be in seedy neighborhoods)

I’m in Aurora, a suburb of Denver. rent for a 1-bedroom averages $1468/month, according to this report. There is a shortage of rental properties in this area, fueled in part by the large boom in employment. Some think legalization of pot is also adding upward pressure to the rental market.

I live in Sherman Oaks, which is a suburb of Los Angeles.

Rental for one of the apartments across the street from me is about $1,500.

Probably $300—$400. Small town.

When I moved here, I managed to secure a 3 bedroom “apartment” that was really the bottom floor of a huge, old house. Walked in the front door, into the living room, and there was a fire place. To the right was a set of French doors that led to a “parlor” (no closet) which was used as the 3rd bedroom
To the left of the fire place was another set of French doors which led to a huge dining room. Off of that was a small kitchen.
To the right of the dining room was a hallway which led to the 2 official bedrooms and the bathroom was at the end of the hall.
Huge covered porch.
It was about 1400 sq feet.
My Dr. lived just up the street, and one of the VP’s of the college lived next door. The house across the street was trash. But…that’s how this town rolls. You aren’t forced into “seedy” parts of town because of your income.
$350. a month.

BUT, to be fair, the dipshit landlord had no idea what he had. He was a slum lord, overall. The outside was trashed. The inside was trashed as well, when I moved in. I spent a year cleaning and painting….he could have rented it for $700, easy, when I got done.

Several years later my daughter and her husband moved back in. (Her son, who I raised for the first 5 years, and who was about 6 at the time walked in and said, “This is the house I grew up in!) Anyway, they pulled up the carpet and refinished the floors.

With a little TLC the whole house could have been a gold mine for some landlord.

DC Area, anywhere from 900 to 3000 or higher depending on the amenities. Parking is a premium so if it comes with parking it is usually on the higher end. Even though parking isn’t a problem at the surrounding areas around the district, it can be higher because you have close transportation to the city. The further out you live the cheaper it gets, I know people who drive 2 hours to the city because rent and home ownership is cheaper the further away you move. I live 30 miles away and it takes an hour to an 90 minutes to drive to the city. On a really bad weekend we just drive to the train station and ride into the city because you can be stuck for 2 hours in traffic. Around the nearest trains station, rent for a one bedroom starts at 1500 minimum. And usually it is a studio apartment. To buy a home around there it is about 500,000 for a 2 bedroom townhouse. if you are lucky.

@Pandora what is the minimum wage there? I’m just curious…

And have you ever seen the President, and more importantly, have you seen Michelle???

San Francisco, $2.000 -3,500

In East TN, about $800—$1200 a month. More than my mortgage on a standard single family home.

Honestly the average family income is somewhere in the 30k range so I don’t see how rent is affordable.

prairie fire that drives everything before it.

between 5–900 depending on amenities. Central Ohio

I moved out here in 1991, but a nice apartment in the city cost $600 a month. That was one BR, kitchen, living room and bath. Not a big place. That was the 1991 price.

dammitjanetfromvegas's avatar

$350–450. Western Illinois.

I live in Boston, and it depends on the area. In the lesser expensive areas you can find them for 1100–1500. In the more expensive areas, you can find them for about 1500 to almost 2000. If you’re buying a luxury unit, expect about at least 150% of the price.

@Dutchess_III Minimum wage is almost about 10 bucks hourly. But a lot of companies provide other financial compensation. Did you mean the median? Which is probably around 65000 yearly.
Yes, I have seen President Obama and Michelle. On tv. LOL.
I have visited their house from the outside but between the pesky gates and the nasty looks from the Guards (like I should be deported) I figure it’s best if I just leave them alone. I have seen their helicopter fly over and I signal for them to call me. But I never got a call.

Small town – 600.00 to 1,000 depending on amenities.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@chyna
does that include indoor plumbing or is it an outhouse?

marinelife's avatar

Anywhere from 1400–2700+. Washington DC.

janbb's avatar

NJ – Probably around $900 – $1,500

ibstubro's avatar

Rural MO. I think you might still get a dive for $250? Possibly less.

About 11,000NOK/ month for a 45 square meter apartment with one bedroom. (Nearest city to where I live in Trondheim) In American, that’s $1400 per month for a 480 square foot one bedroom apartment.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Mrs Squeeky rented a one bed room apartment when she went to school in 2010 and it was $750 a month ,I was all for it because her school was over an hour and a half from us and didn’t want her driving 3 hours a day.
And that is in the interior of BC.
Should note it was fun to visit her on my days off heh, heh, heh.
Last time I checked that same apartment is going for $900 a month today.
Should also add that included everything but the phone. heat, cable, internet, and electricity.

Our 1 bedrooms in Bakersfield are $670–790 depending on the neighborhood.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

Depends on the area, but anywhere from $750—$2100+ in Portland, Oregon.

chyna's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe That’s with an outhouse on the side of a mountain.

Berserker's avatar

500 is the minimum it will go for, and that’s being lucky. It also depends what is included; electricity, furniture, appliances, internet/cable. I’m in a small Québec town, which is also known for its severe crime and unemployment rates.

jerv's avatar

The lowest I’ve seen here around Seattle is $650, and that was in a seedy apartment complex a couple of years ago, so it’s likely higher now. Average is more in the $800–1200 range.

ibstubro's avatar

Actually, even seedy 1 bedrooms here seem to be more like $350.
I don’t even know where to look. The listings are no longer in the local paper’s classifieds – at least on the free on-line version.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

If you can’t find anything on line check with a local realtor?

Incoherency_'s avatar

About $10K/month.

I live with my mom and my mother at the Birj Khalifa in Dubai.

jerv's avatar

@Incoherency_ Is that US dollars (USD) or UAE Dirhams (AED)?

For those that don’t feel like converting, the exchange rate was pegged back to the US Dollar in ‘97 so it doesn’t change the way most currencies do.

10,000 AED = 2722.57 USD
10,000 USD = 36,730 AED

Incoherency_'s avatar

@jerv

That’s 10K in US dullards, which is my own special kind of incohurrency. ;-p

I made all of that up, because I was guessing that tenants in the Khalifa would pay some rather “lofty” rent.

Seriously though, I just checked one report and apparently apartments at the BK go for more than 5,200 USD/month.

$500 – $550.00 average run-of-the-mill apartment Central Texas

Student apartments: 4 bedroom apartments rent for $600+ per bedroom usually you get your own bath with it and the rest of the unit is communal.

dammitjanetfromvegas's avatar

My sister has a two bedroom in Studio City, CA. $1600 per month (eff that)

wsxwh111's avatar

I’m at Shanghai, I believe the average price is around 2200, and I heard people found 1500

wsxwh111's avatar

Which is less than $400 and $250, I think it’s not extremely expensive considering the incomes here

SamandMax's avatar

Here in lovely Bournemouth in the south of the UK along the coast of Dorset, a one bed flat such as the one I currently reside in is worth £565 a month (let me see….879.87 US Dollars),
whereas the house I’m moving to up north to accommodate the little feet of my family – way, way, way up north – is nearly £200 cheaper per month up in the North Yorkshire region.
This is probably of no interest or concern to you, but I figured I’d just chuck that in there.
