Effects of Overdose combination of Paracetamol, Ibrufen and Citrizin Hydrochloride?

Asked by ReachingNewHeights (41points) August 11th, 2015

My friend took 3300 mgs of paracetamol and 1600 mgs of Ibrufen. Half an hour later, he took 100 mgs of Citrizin Hydrochloride. Can it harm him?

You’ve listed these drugs by their chemical (generic) names. For the sake of simplicity I’m going to use the brand names. Therefore:

Paracetamol = Tylenol

Ibuprophen = Motrin

Ceterizine HCL = Zyrtec

You need to either get your friend to an ER or call 911. This is a situation for professionals to handle rather than playing guessing games on the Internet.

The Zyrtec is not the biggest concern here other than a walloping case of dry mouth.

If he took all these pills these hoping for an easy way to commit suicide where he would just drift off peacefully to sleep, that will not happen.

Liver failure will take several very painful days before it kills you.

The 1600 mgs. of Motrin is 8 of the OTC pills. That’s double the highest reccmended prescription dose so if he took this much without food he will likely have one hell of a stomach ache.

But the Tylenol is the MOST CONCERNING. Overdosing on this has killed people but in the most miserable painful way possible. Its extremely toxic to the liver. He needs to be in an ER so they can do blood tests and minimize the liver damage. There is no way to tell for certain if this was a high enough dose to kill him but I’m not willing to assert that it won’t. But it’s certainly enough to possibly cause liver damage necessitating a liver transplant. That’s not fun and liver failure is really an awful way to die.

If you can’t talk him into going to an ER then call 911 and let the ambulance handle it. He needs to be evaluated.

I’ve left him in doctor’s hands now. I thank you for your help.
Doctors didn’t tell me anything. He was fine, at least until I got him to the hospital.

Good for you.

With privacy laws being what they are, unless you’re immediate family, the medical staff can’t legally tell you much.

Plus they need to do blood tests and the results take awhile.

Once he gets stabilized and released from the ER he needs to get a good therapist to work on why he is so unhappy with his life that he resorted to such a miserable way to sort of end it.

Everybody should have a friend like you. You definitely did the right thing.

Thanks for your help. Ya well I guess they can’t tell me. I’ll have to contact his parents. But the problem is he doesn’t have an immediate family member in the city.

It’s unfortunate that no family members are nearby.

But when you do talk to his parents suggest that they find him a good therapist before the next time comes along and his attempt is more successful.

He’s obviously in a lot of emotional pain and needs professional help.

I just found this Q. It’s good he went to the doctor. Most likely he’ll be fine.

Do you have an update?

Will the doctor’s let you visit him? Or, they won’t let you in the room?

If you think you might be poisoned and don’t know what to do, call: 1–800-222–1222.

Thanks for the concern guys. He is absolutely fine. He has a bad diarrhea, but mostly he is okay.
His parents are gonna take him to a psychologist.
