What should I do for my birthday?

Asked by cazzie (24516points) August 21st, 2015

Well, managed another year, but I have to work at my little boutique all weekend and my son’s father is too busy with his new girlfriend this weekend (and the next) to be a parent. Any ideas what I can do with the little time I have? I thought take my kiddo and me out for dinner after I close the shop, but we do that most weekends I have to watch the store anyway. Suggestions?

Try a different restaurant.

Are there any tourist attractions in your area that you haven’t seen becuase for the most part ONLY tourists go there?

Or any kid-appropriate music venues?

Maybe you could be more flexible about the actual date of the birthday, and celebrate it as you’d really like to when you’re not busy and your son can stay with his father.
Otherwise, you could do something at home, like having an exceptional dinner and then, when your son goes to bed, spend it however you’d like (watching movies, taking a relaxing bath, baking, etc.). If you wish to do something special with your son, you could try going treasure hunting (ever heard of geocaching?) or having an evening picnic outdoor… Is it summer where you live? That could be an advantage.
Hope this suggestions help :)

I think it’s kind of sweet that you are spending the day with your little guy. I totally understand wanting and needing some time to yourself but your son will probably be happy to feel like it’s your special day with him to do whatever strikes your fancy.

Do a wine tasting and let your son drive. It will be an unforgettable adventure for both of you!

I hope I made you laugh on your birthday at least. Happy birthday!

@jaytkay There is a massive music festival on this weekend and everyone (including his father) is going to that. But we both hate crowds and outdoor venue music. Not our cup of tea. I think a swim and picnic dinner on the beach will be part of the weekend plans

@MiliYM The weather has been fantastic lately. We walked across the road to our small beach (only the locals from this private road go there because there is no parking) on Wednesday and swam there for the first time. 28C Woo hoo! We could grab a basket of food and walk across the road again tonight when we get home from the store.

@jca I always spend my birthday with my son. He wants a few kroner to go buy me a surprise, he said. He also has plans with friends today, she I’ll probably go into the store this morning and he’ll call and come in on a later bus.

speaking of buses…

@gorillapaws haa haa! He’s 10 and we don’t have a car. ;)

Is the shop closed on Sunday? Is the weather reasonably warm at the moment? Why not go on a hike and take a picnic for you both? Otherwise, dinner and the cinema.

By the way, Happy Birthday!

I’d invite you out for a drink and a nice birthday conversation if I didn’t live 8000 miles away.

My son gave me my present. He went out and bought it all on his own and even gift wrapped it at the wrapping station at the mall. It was a pair of headphones. He said, ‘Your speaker is so bad on your laptop, you deserve to hear every hertz and decibel, so I got you these.’ I have the best kid.

Yes the shop is open Sundays and I’m on duty. I’ll hurry home when we close and we will go to the beach today. Yesterday it got too late and cloudy and I fell asleep right after I ate dinner. I did enjoy a lovely glass of New Zealand savblac in the sun near closing time yesterday though, so that was a lovely treat. (And probably why I fell asleep haha)

Thanks all for the birthday wishes.
