Seems it's finally over for baseball great Yogi Berra. Care to share a favorite memory, quote or experience in tribute?

Yogi Berra

Truly a great man, and graced us with his presence for an impressive 90 years.

“It ain’t over till it’s over.”

“I never blame myself when I’m not hitting. I just blame the bat and if it keeps up, I change bats. After all, if I know it isn’t my fault that I’m not hitting, how can I get mad at myself?”

“You can observe a lot by watching.”

@marinelife Aw, you beat me to it.

Still, that quote: Best. Advice. Ever.

His telegram to Johnny Bench: “I thought my record would stand until it was broken.”

“Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.”

Let’s not forget the most famous of all, “It’s deja vu all over again!”

The best thing about Yogi-isms is that they all make sense.

“If you come to a fork in the road, take it.” But of course. Life throws challenges in our paths, and we’re fools if we don’t see them as opportunities.

“Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.” Who hasn’t said this?!?! A variation might be, “Nobody takes that road. There’s too much traffic.”

“You can observe a lot by watching.” Interpretation #1: Don’t just see something, but truly pay attention and watch. Interpretation #2: Life learning is more beneficial than book learning.

Reporter: How did you like school as a boy?
Yogi: Closed.

I just heard this one this morning on NPR.

Berra’s wife: You were born in Saint Louis but grew up in New Jersey. Where would you like to be buried?

Berra: I don’t know. Surprise me.

Yogi always came to Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame Induction week. He always gave out free autographs as long as there were fans around. He had a table in front of one of the shops along with Juan Marichel, and some other HOF members.

@Adirondackwannabe For as long as they were both alive and physically able, both Yogi and Carmen were there every year.

Why am I not surprised that Yogi gave free autographs, when just about everyone else charged some serious money?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Love_my_doggie Yeah, there were guys charging big bucks, but Yogi and his crew, there were five of them gave em out free with lots of smiles and charm. There were also some HOF members back in stores sending runners out to find kids for free autographs. The adults usually were collecting them to resell.

That is a fun experience. I go over on Saturday, the streets are blocked off and there are HOF members all over the place. It’s a great village, but that is magical.
