I don’t know what think. A Pope’s friend for 17 years. Arranged meeting. Then Kentucky? On her way to pick up an award from The conservative family whachamacallit group, she took the time to see the Pope.
**sigh**
Great. My head hurts now and no asprin to be found.
Wow.
Does this change anything?
Does it change your opinion of his visit?
( the Pope’s- not his friend’s visit…his friend probably had a very nice time.)
Ow. “An asprin, an aspirin, my kingdom for an aspirin!!!”*
*Foot note: Shakespeare’ s Richard III. Act4. ..kinda.

I don’t really see what the issue is. The Pope is supposed to be Christ’s representative on Earth. Would Christ not meet with someone because of politics?

I’m sorry Darth_Alger, I should have referenced another question that was getting really long. It was about the Pope’s meeting with the clerk from Kentucky news story when it first came out. It is interesting to see all the viewpoints. Most upset because of the Pope’s words to her, of all people, saying to ‘Be strong’.
It was stunning to many. And disappointing to others.
Today’s news release was a surprise also.
No harm meant.
Please, take a look at the prior discussions in the question starting with “Wait, What?”.
Again, my apologies.

Like @Darth_Algar, I’m not clear on what the concern is about. Is it the fact that the pope met with a stranger who takes a stance against same-sex marriage and then meets with a same-sex couple? If so, doesn’t that in itself send a message to the world that Darth describes?

I’ve been following your question regarding Kentucky’s county clerk’s meeting with the pope. I even re-read the responses. Most were not upset. The question was worthy of creating a discussion that is still ongoing as more details come out.

Hello Pied_Pfeffer!
It was interesting seeing all the press coverage while the Pope visited, wasn’t it? There were messages for followers, political factions, world leaders, even those who were not in attendance for his words. That would make any politician envious!
Awaiting his visit were many interest groups anticipating his actions once here. With that, I believe some were genuinly very hurt by the second meeting with such a bigot- all without knowing of the first- between two good friends.

The meeting of the Kentucky clerk and the Pope made international news. Hard to miss! Their meeting was kept quiet until the Pope’s departure. Then to have, as described by one pundit: ‘damage-control’ information being put out by the Vatacan concerning the Pope’s prior meeting with a close friend and his partner, in order to balance and make equal for those so upset.
Interpretation is up to the beholder.
Personally, I would crumble immediately under such pressures coming from all angles. Every move and word scrutinized? Wow.
I would love to hear how or if some opinions have changed with the release of the other meeting’s information.
We’ll see…
Take care~

@msh

Yeah, I read that thread. I just don’t see why people are making such a big fuss over all this issue ether way.. He’s the Pope, the Vicar of Christ. He should meet with people of all differing walks of life. Seems rather like the Christ-like thing to do.

What’s annoying to me is the way right wing Christians in the media (so that does not include all Christians in the media or otherwise) jumped on a bandwagon saying the American public is antiChristian, because everyone loved the Pope during his visit, but then when “we” found out the Pope met and encouraged the KY lady we are all horrified by it. Supposedly, this reinforces that deep down we are against Christians having religious freedom. Bullshit! The religious right needs to stop trying to twist things to try to promote the idea they are being oppressed. It just sounds ridiculous. The worst case was when they seized the moment when that man in SC killed all those black people in a black church. That was really ridiculous. How anyone didn’t immediately see that as a black hate crime I will never ever understand considering the history in America.

The Christian Right is not the only people twisting things. The extreme lefties did react with some horror that the Pope might have met with her. An overreaction.

The Pope can meet with whomever he wants, and he seems to be a string believer that we are all God’s children. When he speaks to someone or blesses them, his goal is to encourage peace and acceptance. That’s what I get from this Pope. He is to me what I would call a pay it forward person. Show love and compassion and it helps reduce anxiety and anger and helps the person who was shown acceptance be more compassionate to others.

The Pope meeting his old friend shows his heart.
If there is any doubt, I understand the Archbishop that set up the Kim Davis meeting is going to be removed from his position.

Half the Priests are gay. I mean really, it’s almost laughable that Catholics would be against gay marriage. All my Catholic friends are just fine with it being legal.

The more we see out of Mrs Davis and her camp the more I’m convinced that she’s nothing more than an opportunistic scavenger picking through shit looking for quick fame and flinging that shit all over anyone who happens to be unfortunate enough to get within flinging distance of her.
