I’d say both, I’m a pretty tolerant type overall.
I can have my moments but all in all I am pretty easy going.

stanleybmanly's avatar

I don’t know.

I’d say I’m more tolerant of people here on Fluther since I don’t have to deal with them daily on a actual face-to-face basis. You, know, ‘I can take it or leave it’ kind of thing.

That. I can bugger off whenever I wish, therefore putting a stop to whatever discontentment I may feel.
Not always easy to do in real life, which requires action if someone is getting on your tits. Work, school, no choice but to stick with it. Clench your teeth and endure. Not here though. :)

I have a hard time standing by idly when people say stupid shit, both in real life and on the internet. I think about it and sometimes I feel it’s not worth my while to say anything because, I’ll remind myself, “think of where it comes from.” Sometimes I’ll say something, sometimes not.

As far as people’s behavior goes, in real life, if I don’t like someone, I try to avoid them.

Real life people are much more careful with their choice of words. Internet people think they can spew away without a filter for their words and I find that very irritating at best.

ragingloli's avatar

It is more honest on the internet.
Sometimes I wish it would go further, though.
How many times it would have been appropriate to call someone a nazi.

@ragingloli Tolerance is what separates the two. One can hide their neo-con views behind an avatar online but in real life I find they are milquetoast cowards who would never vocalize their views to be held accountable by their peers.

I think I’m about the same with folk on-line and in real life.

~What’s this real life that you speak of?

Mimishu1995's avatar

To ordinary people, I am about the same. To nasty people, I think I’m less tolerant on the Internet than in real life. On the Internet I don’t have to fear that the people will come get me when I vent :p

I’m more tolerant on Fluther. There are no ‘people’ on the internet, just ‘personas’, and it’s hard to get really made at someone that’s just trying to get your goat. On the internet I’ve been known to just shirt into low gear and dig in.

In real life I’m fond of saying “The easiest way to piss me off is to try. It’s my nature so if that’s your goal, why should I fight it?”

In real life an immediate response is often called for. On Fluther they never know you’ve seen a flame bait until you respond to it. On Fluther there should be a lot less coulda, shouda, woulda about your responses.

When @gailcalled stopped participating, I thought perhaps she had just started a new persona. Sad to hear that she’s so unwell as to enter hospice care.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

I don’t think I’m more tolerant as much as less invested. So if someone says something I consider to be ridiculous, I’ll decide whether I can be bothered responding. Depending on the time I have and my mood, I am quite likely to just click to the next question.

People on Fluther are more tolerant of my shit.

ZEPHYRA's avatar

Yes because we cannot put a face to the name. Just as well for all of us!

jca's avatar

@ZEPHYRA: Except for those of us who know each other on FB or other sites…..

ibstubro's avatar

People on Fluther are more appreciative of your shit, @rojo.
Your shit being a considered, acquired taste.

As long as you don’t fudge excessively.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

So @cookieman you have no tolerance for an idiot no matter what format they come in ,is that about it???

cookieman's avatar

Correct.

Unless they bring me cookies. Idiots who can bake are an exception.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

I make the best scratch chocolate chip cookies you will ever eat, but seeing we will probably never meet you will never know, oh well your loss.

cookieman's avatar

You never know. We may have met already.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

I doubt it, don’t you live on the east coast of the states??
I am in western Canada, you ever been out to B.C??

cookieman's avatar

Not yet, but it’s on my list of places I really want to get to. And yes, I’m in Boston.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

See I have never been lower than upstate New York and that was when I was a teenager.

DrasticDreamer's avatar

I’m not sure. If someone says something stupid on Fluther, I usually don’t bother interacting with them (which never used to be the case – in the old days, I got pretty ranty when someone said something I felt was really screwed up). That said, I still have really strong opinions regarding certain things and I will call people out for racist/sexist/homophobic things – but usually only if I think a person even stands a chance of seeing their error. Otherwise, just like on here, I don’t bother with them.

However… because I’m introverted and shy, sometimes I have difficulty talking to people, even when I want to. Here and offline.

Dutchess_III's avatar

@ragingloli “It is more honest on the internet.” Yes and no. Sometimes people can act just the opposite of who they really are, on the internet.

On Fluther I think I stay in conversations that get heated longer than I would IRL.

StillWorksForChocolate's avatar

I’m not very tolerant of people in general, regardless of where they happen to piss me off. ;)
