Calling the fairer sex please! Any of you experienced dealing with ovarian cysts?

What sent you to a doctor? Were you given hormones? How long did the situation last? Thanks in advance.

Do you have PCOS? Are you missing periods?

I’ve had them for years, but they cause me no trouble. Well, maybe no trouble. I get some seriously bad pelvic pain sometimes, but I’m not sure that’s what causes it. I didn’t even know I had them until I had ultrasounds for other things. No treatment.

I have (had?) ovarian cysts. I had ultrasounds for an unconnected reason and the cysts were observed at that time. Like @augustlan I’ve had pelvic pain on occasion, but nothing that required medical attention. After the discovery of the cysts, no action was taken.

I knew early on that I had endometriosis. It’s hereditary, and my mother pretty much told me that’s what it was when I described all of my symptoms. One of those symptoms is frequent problem cysts. I think most women develop ovarian cysts at various times, but most women do not experience extreme pain with them. I, unfortunately, do.

My doc agrees that it is most likely endometriosis, although they can’t document a formal diagnosis without performing laproscopic surgery. The only treatment that I know of is to either take birth control and skip the placebo week of pills, or have a hysterectomy.

Mine will come and go, and sadly, my 14 yr old daughter has already experienced it. I took her to the ER, thinking it might be appendicitis but it was simply a painful cyst. They recommended ibuprofen and birth control, but the birth control made her sick, like it does for me.

Sometimes I’ll be in pain with a cyst for days at a time, sometimes I won’t have one for a couple of months. Depends on how much my body hates me.
