What do you think of Star Trek's return to TV?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37338points) November 3rd, 2015

It was announced that Star Trek will return to TV in 2017.

What do you think? What do you hope for? What are you dreaming of? Do you want past characters to return? Can you imagine new storylines?

Please, use this question to state anything you wish about the show.

The lead person is a writer for the Jar Jar Abrams films.

The show week only air on the subscription service “CBS All Access” which I literally didn’t know existed until I heard about this show.

No word yet on whether it’s set in Prime Universe or Abramsverse.

I don’t want to live in a Vulcan-less future, so if it’s set in rebootverse, I’m out.

I refuse to be excited about this until I know more.

meh.

If it doesn’t have Shatner and Nimoy, it’s not the real thing.

I knew someone would bang on about this, thought it might have been @Seek or maybe the germanic one. Considering I can say anything about the show, I shall utter but one, well, grunt really…meh!

I am very hopeful that it will be a good show with good writing. I plan to give it a chance.

Too many variables. We will have to wait and see.

My understanding is that it’s only going to be available for the people who pay for the CBS subscription service.

$5.99 per month, at that.

I get 10,000 shows on Netflix for $8/mo. Why on earth would anyone pay $6 a month for CBS? Are reruns of CSI that special?

Rarebear's avatar

@Seek Exactly. The only other show I watch is Big Bang Theory. And maybe, just maybe Supergirl if it can manage not to suck.

And the money shot from that article: “The suits at CBS might be counting on brand loyalty from old-school Star Trek fans to drive All Access subscriptions, but they’re asking them to pay for something that doesn’t look or function very much like the Star Trek they know and love.”

~Depends on if they bring back the green women.~ I hope it has modern tech to dream about.

Given the executive producer, my expectations are very, very low. I would love another good Star Trek series. I’m just not expecting this to be that.

I’ll watch it anyway, because why not? But it will probably cause my heart to die a little.

Old characters from which era of Star Trek? I am not sure they would get many to sign on as they are probably doing other things. I could not imagine what they could do more, but I hope they do a better job than with the last one with Scott Bakula. As much as I like Star Trek I would presume to let it die if it cannot be done in high integrity in the spirit Gene Roddenberry created it.

Triple meh.
