How do I decide what Athabasca university course to take?

Asked by talljasperman (21916points) November 13th, 2015

I’m interested in the human mind and brain. Also I would like to learn how to program video games. I’m scared that I would fail the Java components seeing I took JAVA in university 15 years ago and got a 1 / 9 . I have a surface pro laptop and hope I can use it for computer programing. I passed the first year of psychology with 5/9 final grades and I failed the second year.

I might just take the required English 255 class first.

Good for you! You’re going to take a class! Awesome!

Yes, start with the requirements.

Are you asking us what courses to take to pursue those things? If so speak to a school guidance councilor. They’d know better than we would how to pursue a particular vocation at that particular school.

If you’re asking us to pick your line of study for you then maybe you’re not quite ready to pursue university.

@Hawaii_Jake The only requirements are that I am 16 or over unless I want to take chemistry classes. The courses cost $1,000 each about.

@Darth_Algar I can take both and get a two year diploma in arts and science.

So what exactly are you asking of us?

talljasperman's avatar

@Darth_Algar if I am ready to go back to university and if I could succeed.

Is there a cheaper college where you live?

I don’t know, and can’t possibly know. Neither can anyone else. You’re the only person who can answer that question. I know it’s intimidating for you, but sooner or later you’re going to have to be brave and take some initiative for yourself.

Just based on my past knowledge, Colin, you might like to try out some of the free, at-home options before paying for a class you may or may not ever show up to.

Khan Academy has courses on JavaScript and HTML/CSS that cost absolutely nothing. They also have math, science, economics, and arts courses for many different disciplines.

(Whenever I read about Athabasca University, I think it is from Harry Potter.)

Here’s an option, University of People They for charge for each class registration (I think it is $50 US) and they charge for taking the final exam for each semester ( I think that is $150 US). It is not just for students in the USA.
