Short dress for prom?

Asked by FeelTheBern (368points) December 15th, 2015

I know it’s more traditionally to wear longer dresses to prom, but in your opinion, would a short dress be okay?

Short as in, skater cut or a little below/above the knee.

You are correct. A long, formal dress is traditional, but I wouldn’t let that make my decision for me.

Wear what you want! It’s your prom, and you only go once. If you find a short dress that looks dynamite on you, wear it. I would let the dress decide and not tradition.

Why not look at both kinds of dresses? Look for traditional ones and nontraditional ones. Consider both.

It’s become common for us Brits to hold a prom when our kids graduate, the girls wear tiaras & hideous ballgowns that make them look like extras from a victorian brothel.
Me no likey, much prefer a well tailored figure hugging slimline dress, more class than crass.

I’ve seen both displayed. Wear what feels great to you.

At my prom last year there were LOTS of girls wearing shorter dresses. Yeah, it’s more traditional to wear a longer dress but it’s definitely not unheard of to wear a shorter dress. It’s your prom, wear whatever dress you like!

From what I’ve noticed the past several years it seems more common for girls to wear short dresses.

I would likely discuss it with my date.

What do we care of tradition anymore? It use to be a boy with a girl, flowers, limos and all that, but that got redacted the dress pales to that; wear what you please.

I want to dress like an extra at a Victorian brothel. Someone throw a fancy-dress party!

Go for it. Wear what you like.

Bring on the buxom cleavage & i’m at that party in a heartbeat

Doesn’t affect my life what you wear, so do what makes you comfortable.

Well, it depends on how short it is. However, if it’s your liking then sure!
