What job, when done right, does no one notice, but the moment it's done wrong someone immediately points it out?

Asked by DrasticDreamer (23996points) December 17th, 2015

The answers can be as silly and creative or as serious as you’d like them to be.

My contribution is: the dishes. Everyone seems to know how to do them the “right” way, so if you wander off their path, they have no problem telling you how you could have done a better job. This is why I prefer to do the dishes with no one else around, because I, like everyone else in the world, prefer to do the dishes my way. :D

Folding towels or sheets! I was told that they should just ” float out perfectly as if the two corners are pulling them loose in a breeze…”
Seriously?!?
Or putting letters or cards in an envelope- how it should ‘look’ when it’s opened- If you did it correctly!

It can be applied to almost all kinds of housework, as most people go with the assumption that everyone knows how to do it the right way, like you say. And beside, who wants to repeatedly praise for something you do everyday (unless you’re one spoilt child who for the first time touches the broom and gets your family moved)?

@ragingloli GA You got it. Infrastructure. Most people don’t even know what the word means.

Sewage treatment/wastewater treatment. Nobody thinks twice about what happens when you flush the toilet. Most likely, if you live in a city, there’s a government run sewage treatment plant with workers who test it, shovel it, drain it, etc.

• Mail delivery (“bill, bill, junk, THAT PERSON DOESN’T LIVE HERE!”)
• Most housekeeping jobs

Receptionist.

No one in the office knows what the person on the switchboard goes through every day, but damn if they don’t pitch a fit the one time a salesman makes it through.

Infrastructure maintenance. When going from point A to point B, no one notices when the roads are good. Let them degenerate and become filled with potholes and I guarantee it will be noticed. Same thing, no one notices when the water is running, or the sewer is operating correctly; but watch out if you have no water or the sewer backs up!
