Is anyone else tired of their Facebook feed being overrun by memorials whenever a celebrity dies?

Asked by dammitjanetfromvegas (4601points) December 29th, 2015

I know, I could just get off Facebook but I don’t want to. I’m trying to enjoy a much deserved lazy day.

The worst is when it suggests you’re heartless & uncaring if you scroll past, shut the fuck up already!
Yep, i’m on FB now, relented

I guess we are both heartless and uncaring. :)

Only a few will copy and paste this. I know who will and who won’t. You’re heartless if you don’t!

I tried not to go overboard.

It bugs me when people who I know FULL WELL didn’t give a shit about the person until the moment they died post memorials like, “RIP legendary music guy who was awesome and other generic things”, while my husband is literally sobbing on the couch, unable to put words together.

Lemmy was a personal hero of his. It’s like we lost family.

With Lemmy i’d post a pack of cards with the ace of spades torn in two & a solitary tear falling from the king’s eye.

Not really. I just scroll on past unless it’s someone I actually care about. Not much on Facebook bothers me. I can just close the browser and go and do something else.

I will do that when the celebrity held a special place in my childhood and teen years. Lemmy wasn’t that guy.

If a celebrity dies that’s one thing, but a second rate guitarist for a third rate band? Nope, I scroll past.

I skip most of the in memoriams here on Fluther too.

Nope. My friends all understand that they are not free to post just whatever they wish to their FB accounts without my express permission.

There are a few celebrities that have played a massive part in my life and continue to do so. I’m not ashamed to say that my celebrity heros have helped me through some really hard times and I know that when they die I will be incredibly sad. For this reason I have no problem at all with people expressing their own sadness or tributes when a celebrity dies, regardless of how I felt about them myself. I’d actually rather see people being compassionate and effected by death than uncaring and criticising those that do care.

I am skipping the Natalie Cole tributes.

@dammitjanetfromvegas Oh, I don’t know. I was never a fan of hers. Yes, she had some talent and had a few hits. But it is not the terrible tragedy knocked down in her prime whatever will we listen to no one will ever sing again. I am not making negative comments on Facebook or criticizing anyone. But I will be quiet and scroll through them without spending an afternoon on them.

I guess I don’t mind the tributes if it’s someone I like.

Bowie.

Too sad @dammitjanetfromvegas. I just noticed the headline. Even though he was older, he just seemed young. Eternally youthful and cool.

I thought Bowie was older. I was surprised to hear he was only 69.
