It’s a special diet used in medicine to treat epilepsy in children. It has more and worse side effects than most medications and surgery used to treat epilepsy so is usually only used as a last resort ( stunted growth, bone fractures, kidney stones etc).

I imagine it’s probably very effective at weight loss but I probably would try other methods first.

I have never used the diet but several of my coworkers use it. It seems to be effective at weight loss, but is fairly torturous, especially at first. Apparently the body has to go through a process in order to transition from using carbs as energy into using fat, and during that time, you get flu-like symptoms. But supposedly once that’s done, you’ll be just as energetic as usual.

Sounds like a horrible idea for weight loss. What good is being at a healthy weight when you wrecked your health getting there?

You’d be better off just going low carb.

Sounds like a good way to destroy your gallbladder.

I was unfamiliar with the term, but just looked it up. It looks like the one time I tried Primal I ended up doing something very similar to Ketogenic. I ended up with a failed gallbladder, three years of pain, and a cholecystectomy. Now I have to limit my fat intake or I’ll just throw up whatever I ate.

Yay, fun!
