How do I get Siri to go away without rebooting my device?

Asked by Buttonstc (27605points) January 11th, 2016 from iPhone

Apparently there’s something about how I’m pushing the Home button which calls up Siri when I don’t want to.

At first I would just reboot but that’s getting tedious. This time I tried just saying “Go away”.

I’m informed that “Goodbye would be more polite” but when I say Goodbye that doesn’t get rid of it either.

It keeps asking inane questions like “did I do something wrong”. How do I get this AI to actually listen to me trying to get rid of it?

And why does it keep appearing when I least want it? Can I shut this ridiculous thing off totally? It’s far more annoying than helpful.

Yes. Be glad she doesn’t narrate your thoughts! :)
Go to SETTINGS app.
Then move down to General.
Once there- Siri is listed a bit down on the list.
Open that to enter Siri-land.
You can change, adjust or turn off.
Be nice to her- or him, whatever accent.
She always tells you or creates some nice shortcuts
and hands-free calling.
Give her another chance after a bit.
You might be surprised!

I experimented a bit because I’ve had that problem. It seems if you hold the Home button down “too” long, it awakens Sir so you might want to experiment with your touch.
