Bought a couple like usual.

chyna's avatar

Bought 2. I know I won’t win. So I have no plans on how to spend it.

JLeslie's avatar

I did. I bought 5, and I regret how I did it. I chose numbers on the first ticket, and 2 other tickets wound up with the number 3 and 68. Both are on my ticket where I chose the numbers. I wouldn’t want three tickets with 2 repeated again.

Note to self: don’t buy tickets all at once.

How will I spend it? First I have my husband quit his job before any spending. Then I start the process to move back to FL. I’m sure my husband would buy a car rather quickly. Then I’d look into buy a huge piece of land to build a karting track and garages. Eventually, build a clubhouse, pool, Inn, maybe a driving range, retail store, condos, and cafe.

Travel to Europe for a couple of months.

Give some money to friends and family. Hopefully, no one will know we won (what are the chances?) and the gifting will be done not extremely extravagantly.

@Tropical_Willie I recently read from a winner of 7 lotteries is his secret to winning so many is playing the game “as usual” as you seem to have and to only spend what you can afford. The only other tip he had was to not buy quick picks which I need to spend a bit more time researching as to why he thinks this so. Good luck!

zenvelo's avatar

I will buy 5, ($10 worth). It’s fun, it’s worth it for the fun I get out of it and I share with my kids and my girlfriend. And who knows, I am not fantasizing about winning t he whole thing, although that’s a fun discussion. But there is a small chance of winning a few bucks.

Cruiser's avatar

@JLeslie I like the way you think and hopefully your dream of so many fun things do come true!

Cruiser's avatar

For the record I bought 5 quick pics for my company, 5 for the family and let each family member pencil in their numbers. My only hope is @luckyguy will say yes to my offer if I win.

msh's avatar

So tired of luck and lightning strike comparisons.
You will not win if you don’t play at all.
Killjoys.
$10 worth.

dammitjanetfromvegas's avatar

I’m going to buy one tomorrow.

The first thing I’d do is make dental appointments for me, my son and daughter. I’d then fix the muffler on our car, pay off all of our medical bills, pay off my student loans and the loans my sons have, buy a new car for my dad and buy him a home in Nevada. I’d also go grocery shopping without worrying about the bill, then sit down and make plans for the rest.

ibstubro's avatar

I bought 3 the last time.
I’ll buy 3 tomorrow, if I remember. It was on the agenda the past 2 days and didn’t get done. Haven’t check the 3 I bought last time, either.

Share? Share? Surely you jest.
I’m committed to giving away about 2m. I’d spend under a million on security and ‘stuff’, then I’d Gollum the rest for 1 year.
Hopefully I’d reemerge with some kind of plan.

$10 worth.
I know it’s a waste of money, but the possibility of being insanely rich, and being able to help so many made me do it.

gondwanalon's avatar

I’m waiting for the jackpot to be higher than the national debt. Of course the odds of winning are about the same as getting hit by air plane parts while standing on the South Pole. HA!

I can’t afford an Idiot Tax.

rojo's avatar

no, haven’t, won’t.

Darth_Algar's avatar

I don’t buy into numbers rackets, even ones ran by the state.

I would start an acedemic bunch of free youtube videos from K – ph.d and all trades , and give credit to those who want a degree or diploma for free.

I will be winning in a few hours. Rather than tell you my plans in advance, I will let you know how things went after I get settled into my new life.

JLeslie's avatar

Off topic: I’m very annoyed they raised the cost of a ticket to $2. Did they really have to do that?

msh's avatar

One guy handling ticket sales for the last drawingn asked me did I want something boxed-? I asked what that meant- he said more of a chance, but it upped the ticket price to $3 each.
Anyone hear or know what the heck he was speaking of?

Cruiser's avatar

@msh Having your ticket “boxed” increases the payoff amount of all the secondary games attached to the powerball. They are listed on the slip of paper that you pencil in your number picks on.

ucme's avatar

Not being a yank, no, I did not.
Saying that, I have never bought a lottery ticket in my life & therefore never play the lotto over here either.
You need to be so freakishly lucky & besides, don’t need the money ;-}

LuckyGuy's avatar

With the payout this high I had to buy some.
I just bought $10 worth. 5 Quick-picks.

JLeslie's avatar

I’ll rent a Mansion if I win and have a big jelly party.

rojo's avatar

Did the math and in order to be covered by the FDIC I would have to open 2790 separate bank accounts. From what I have gleaned, that would be about a third of the banks in the US.

ibstubro's avatar

FDIC, SHMEF-DIC, @rojo.

Overseas tax haven, ultimately.
They got their 40%.

msh's avatar

@ucme – Can’t you join in the Irish Lottery? It used to get a good pot going. Not a bazillion, six dollars, but this hasn’t ever happened here either. Watch someone who already has two bazillion, seven dollars win it. Go bet the odds on that! :)

ucme's avatar

I could do, but have no interest, I leave my gambling to sports where regular payouts keep me amused.

This reminds me of the movie Waking Ned Devine, 1998 . See if you can get it from the library.

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Mine arrived today. One ticket. First, I’ll make arrangements to protect the money. Then I’ll take care of family. Then friends; including a couple of people here.

I have an idea for a project I’d like to seed that involves hooking up with Doctors Without Borders, Partners in Health out of Boston, and buying a used 210 ft. US Coast Guard Medium Endurance Cutter with a helipad. I don’t think anyone will argue with me if I decide to make myself captain after upgrading my license. I’ll pick my XO carefully. Anything I need to know, I’ll learn from the XO.

Once that gets going on it’s own, I’d like to buy that island in Tomales Bay about 50 miles up the coast from San Francisco, build a nice, two-story story Queen Anne and an equally elaborate boathouse and dock for the boat, maybe get a couple of horses, a milk cow and some sheep for the dogs to run. Have a corresponding boathouse with loft on the west shore where I’d keep a pretty little old cherry-red 1940’s pick-up truck. I’ll take Dave with me and I’m pretty sure Sam’s owner will let me have him for a grand. They’ll enjoy ranch life in Northern California. I’ll have a small, but very nice place in the City. If I have time to use it, there will also be a 19th century 4th floor getaway up near the Sacre Coeur in Paris.

@Espiritus_Corvus You know how to reach me when you’re ready to install a primo security/surveillance system using an independent network for world-wide communication – no Internet connectivity required. Furthermore I will gladly crew for 6 months to stress test the system in situ to assure everything functions flawlessly in both hot and cold weather.
My toothbrush and undies are already packed!

Espiritus_Corvus's avatar

Yes, definitely. I certainly would need you aboard that vessel, too, and I’m positive you would find the mission both interesting and rewarding. There are a lot of engineering problems to be solved aboard ship and where we’ll be going: in communications, electronic, chemical, structural and especially civil engineering.

Check, check, check, check, and check.

@LuckyGuy: Waking Ned Devine is a great movie. Hilarious movie and charming, too.

@jca I loved their accents and mannerisms. Nice movie!

I could hardly sleep last night! ~ ~ ~

I think one of ours has two numbers plus the Powerball. We’re not sure what we won – 2 bucks or 4? We’re not quitting our jobs just yet.
