What video game was this?

Asked by Tea_Gryphon (517points) January 27th, 2016 from iPhone

I remember seeing a promotional poster for a video game that came out circa 1997–1999. I believe it was for PlayStation but not 100%. The poster consisted of a wolf or dog in high contrasted lighting holding a severed arm/hand in its mouth. The caption read something very close to “Use your bullets wisely, you may have to use the last one on yourself.” I saw it posted up in random places and I, for the life of me, can’t find any evidence of it anywhere and some long time gamer friends of mine have no clue what I’m talking about when I mention it. Can anyone help me pinpoint what game it was advertising? I doubt the dog was the actual cover picture of the game itself. Help me out here!

Resident Evil?

@RedDeerGuy1 Unfortunately, I don’t think it was that because I’ve searched before and I never found any pictures of what I described associating with the RE games.

I wish I had some idea. Unfortunately, in a way, there were so many games being developed during that period (video games were a booming industry, but game development costs hadn’t reached Hollywood blockbuster level yet) that there’s almost no telling. I don’t think I ever knew or heard of half the games that were released for the PS1.

It’s also possible that the poster was for a game that, for whatever reason, never saw the light of day. Plenty of games get abandoned mid-development, even after they’ve been advertised and had articles written about them.

(A notable recent example would be a much-hyped new Silent Hill game that was to star Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) as the game’s protagonist. That game even had a playable demo released before Konami canned it (with no explanation to my knowledge)).

@Darth_Algar I just remember being 13 and being enthralled with the picture and for the life of me I can’t pinpoint what it was from. From the sounds of it though it could have been canned, which is unfortunate. And I wondered what happened to that new Silent Hill! That’s a shame.

Is there a blue light shining down on the dog?

Are you sure that the dog isn’t the cerberus in Resident Evil?

@Tea_Gryphon “And I wondered what happened to that new Silent Hill! That’s a shame.”

Yeah, it’s a little odd. A Silent Hill game headed by the guy behind the Metal Gear franchise, with imput from Guillermo del Toro, and starring the actor who plays the most popular character on the most popular series on television… With all the combined fanboyism there that thing would have sold a gajillion copies.

I’m sure there’s a story there that’s come out since they announced the cancellation, but I don’t really follow the gaming world much anymore. Hell, the only game I’ve bought in probably a year is New ‘n Tasty (a remake of 1997’s Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee).

Totally could have been re. I played them all. They had doberman zonbie dogs in at least a couple of them. You could tell it was them coming by their toenails clicking on tge floor….
