What are the chances that the new Titanic II sinks when it sets sail in 2019?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33152points) February 16th, 2016

Earlier this weekend, Aster posed this question link – would you sail on the Titanic?

This question is more about Karma or spirits or just plain bad luck.

What are the odds that the 2019 Titanic would sink on its maiden voyage?

Do you think that terrorists (or conspiracy types) will be trying to sabotage the Titanic to make this happen?

Are there oddsmakers who are taking bets on this?

It is supposed to have the latest in safety features, so I would put the chances at it sinking on its maiden voyage as low, even if it sails a North Atlantic crossing in January.

I think it will sink financially after one or two trips. A replica of the Titanic will not have any of the current amenities of a cruise ship. Why go on the Titanic when you can go on a Disney Cruise?

@zenvelo Didn’t the original titanic have the latest and greatest? lol

Well given global warming there’s probably a lot less icebergs to run into.

It’s not a perfect replica, from what I gather. They will have certain “non-functional” museum rooms in every level that are open for touring, but otherwise it will be a modern ship.

I wonder if this replica is accurate enough to limit the amount of lifeboats, highly irresponsible but in the search for authenticity…

@Seek is right. When was the last time you heard of a vessel of any size colliding with an iceberg?

@XOIIO

Sure, but technology, safety measures and regulations are a bit better in 2016 than they were in 1912.

Not to mention, the original Titanic had an idiot of a captain who insisted upon running at full speed even after hearing reports of icebergs along their path.

Whatever the old one lacked, the new one has. But I’d rather sail aboard the fastest liner in the world. The USS United States.

@stanleybmanly The MS Explorer hit an iceberg in 2007.
