How are the light up boxes on pizza delivery cars powered?

I just went to the beer store that is next to a Pizza Hut and the light-up sign on top of a delivery car shut off as the driver pulled in and turned off their car. Anybody know how these signs get power and if they are actually tied into cars battery? Or was this driver really slick and these are battery powered and this driver turned the sign off right when they turned off their car?
Or do they plug into the cigarette lighter?
