Will my head be okay?

Asked by kimchi (1440points) March 9th, 2016

Yesterday, I got hit on the head with a tennis ball. The ball hit mildly hard, on the right side of my head. It did not hurt. Today, it hurts when I do rigorous exercises. When I did some jumping jacks, the right side of my head hurt and it gave me a mild headache. When I go down the stairs, the right side of my head also hurts mildly. Is this just a short symptom or something serious?

Is it swollen? Is there bruising?

Be a good idea to have it checked out. Better safe.

Unless your skull got fractured (I doubt it, since it was a tennis ball, not a bowling ball, and it hit you mildly hard) you will be OK.
Ice it down, take ibuprofin and keep doing jumping jacks.

You’ll probably be okay, but if you start feeling dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous, or get overly tired, you need to go to the doctor’s. If you’re pretty worried about it, go anyway to put your mind at ease. Sorry you got hit in the head – a tennis ball would still hurt pretty bad!

It’s good to get it checked probably. Better safe than sorry. Head injury can be tricky.

Definitely, if you choose not to check it now, if you suddenly feel much worse, headache worsens, nauseas, dizzy, treat it as an emergency. Don’t drive! Have a friend or ambulance take you if you experience severe symptoms.

Most likely you’ll be fine, I’m not trying to be overly dramatic, often rest solves minor injury. I’m just stressing if you feel something isn’t right don’t ignore it.

If you have decent medical insurance, I would get a medical professionals opinion that can actual check your vitals and see if there is some need for concern. Better safe than sorry.

You should consult with a doctor. Its probably fine, but its better to be safe than sorry.

Is there a nurse that you can call? Instead of going to an expensive doctor?

I’d take a couple of aspirin and a nap, personally.

No aspirin! No aspirin with a head injury. On the off chance your bleeding, aspirin can make things worse.

You can take Tylenol.

Typo: you’re.

You could be one of those people who gets concussion easily. Have you been hit before and had symptoms of one? It could just be a mild bruise of the tissues. We do have skin and muscle there. I’d look up care for a mild concussion just to be safe. They are absolutely no light matter.

The pain is your body’s message to avoid rigorous exercise and let yourself heal. You may not have been seriously injured, but you were certainly bruised and banged.

I’m not one of those who thinks that every bump needs to be seen by a doctor. That’s ridiculous. Only you know how hard you got hit, and if you classed it as ”[only] mildly hard”, and it’s a normal tennis ball, then what you have is a bruise, not a concussion. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Is it a headache? Or, your head is tender in that spot? There is a big difference.

I once hit my head rather hard and it hurt like the dickens for at least two weeks after. I did not take any aspirin but just let it heal naturally. I did go the doctor but they did not perform a cat scan or xrays. So it may depend on your doctor whether or not any tests will be done. Just let it heal and the pain will eventually subside. My guess is you’ll be fine.
