How do I import fonts from the internet for use in my Office documents?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46807points) March 10th, 2016

Actually, it’s easy enough to find how to do it, but it means downloading things and who knows what all comes with it. I’m looking for references from you guys so I can be reasonably sure they’re from a safe site.

Thank you!

I don’t really have any recommendations. I have downloaded fonts several times and not had any problems

I wondered why you needed the fonts. The fonts that come with Word are many and varied. I also think that fancy fonts have no place in formal documents. Ariel or Calibri every time. I do love fonts though

I was going to say something similar. Why do you think you need extra fonts for business purposes? There are so many that come with Word already.

I found two specific fonts I want that aren’t in Word. Trust me. I’ve been through Word fonts 30 trillion times over the last 20 years I know what they have to offer.

And why are you assuming the ones I want are “fancy” fonts, @Stinley? I know a little bit about advertising. I know the rules of thumbs regarding fonts as well as colors and overall layout.

I want one called Kennedy Sm Caps Boo….something. Maybe “Book”. The other is Aetna JY Newstyle.

I type those in to Google and see that I can download them….I just want recommendation for a reliable site. If no one has one I’ll just take my chances.

I like Calibri too. I use it a lot.
Ariel is ok, but it soooo boring. But it’s useful if you have to use tiny fonts for some reason. It’s the easiest to read.
This Kennedy font is similar to Times New Roman, with a tiny extra zing.

The only proper way to legally and ethically (and safely) download non-standard fonts for use in commercial documents and emails is to purchase them. Find the developer / owner’s site and buy them there.

Actually, as with most software, you’re buying “a license to use” them, not buying them outright.

If it’s the small caps you’re wanting (I’m guessing based on the title), you can put that as a setting in word—click the little icon on the lower right hand corner of the “Font” box (see here. I’m hovering over it with my cursor in the screenshot, but the screenshot doesn’t show the cursor.) Then just select the ”SMALL CAPS” option! (See here). I’ve got Word 2016 for Windows, but it should be about the same for other versions.

If that’s not what you were wanting, then never mind! Aha
Not sure how well-known the small caps option is—I only happened upon it semi-recently

No, I liked the actual font itself. But thanks for the tip. I’ll keep that in mind.

Are your work documents ever shared with other coworkers? If so you should just use the default fonts. If you used a unique font, when others open the document it will substitute the font because they won’t have it on their computer and likely mess up any existing formatting.

myfonts.com and mymyfonts.com are reputable.

They’ve been around a long time, and they sell Adobe and Monotype fonts (and many, many others). Adobe and Monotype wouldn’t tolerate them if they were not reputable.

They both have Kennedy and Aetna JY Newstyle.

@jaytkay thank you so much! That’s all I was looking for.

@Silence04 I want the fonts for advertising purposes. In this case, business cards. That’s all. I have no wish to make my everyday correspondence with coworkers, customers and others look all unique and flashy and full of useless, distracting, immature bling.

I understand your wanting to use specific fonts as I created my business cards and marketing materials using VistaPrint and also selected the Kennedy Sm Caps BOOK as my chosen font. That said, it isn’t that I desire anything “fancy”, I simply want continuity with the layout, colors, and type for my advertising and marketing materials, and want to print up flyers that I design and print from home instead of having to order them through VistaPrint at a hefty price.
