Psychologically speaking, what causes a person's train of thought to resort to killing for fun?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) March 23rd, 2016

Back in 2013, two teenagers from Oklahoma where charged with the murder of a 22 year old Australian baseball player. What was their reason? They only reason they gave was that they were bored. It was not motivated on religious grounds, cultural backgrounds or even the basis of being territorial. No. It was just because these teens were bored.

I remember reading this story three years ago and remember how much it shocked me. And made me wonder what could possibly be going through anyone’s mind to murder someone for such an insignificant reason.

Having never killed or had the remotest thought about killing anyone i’d have absolutely no idea, obviously.

This is psychopathy, the absence of empathy. The psychopath sees others as things and is completely indifferent to their feelings.

I always say I don’t even want to really understand how the criminal mind functions. I guess they have zero empathy and get some sort of rush out of killing someone. Some sort of chemical thing in the brain that either makes them feel good, or relieves them for a moment from discomfort they are in.

If it’s a very very young child, the child may not understand the permanence of death. They don’t really understand what they are doing, but even so it’s beyond me to want to cause physical harm to someone.

Like you, I am a tad curious, but I prefer to think about other things. This train of thought goes nowhere. No matter what I think, because I don’t hold a degree from a respected institution in abnormal psychology, it won’t change a thing. I hold no authority in the field.

I prefer to concentrate on things I can do something about in my own small way. Today, I’m studying bonsai trees. Specifically, how to grow and sculpture frankincense bonsai’s. These might make other people happy and, in a small way, help revive the rapidly disappearing frankincense industry, preserve an endangered genus and even bring in a little money. It also makes me feel good. It is a positive thing and possibly an answer to a problem. This other shit is depressing and there is no payoff. Tomorrow I’ll be tasting the questionable result of my Stilton goat cheese experiment. Wish me luck.

What @thorninmud said. It is also especially disturbing when two psychopaths hook up and feed off each other, happens more than you think. Like attracts like and when two equally screwed up people find each other it opens the flood gates of evil in a way that might not occur otherwise.

When the toilet is clogged because your mother in law poured half a pot of cabbage soup down it and then lied about it.
