When was the last time you went some place totally new to you?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) March 31st, 2016

I’d planned a trip into the city today to visit some old haunts and hopefully see a few new places.

It got too late for today, but there’s nothing I like much more than fresh scenery.

Have you been someplace new-to-you lately?

I had an appt. in a down town high rise last Mon. morning. 17th floor, great views of the city, cool architecture, and I figured out a parking meter that was extremely confusing. It was fun!

I went to a market that I had heard about for years. Boys Farmers Market. We also went to girls strawberry patch, grandmas bakery, and had pizza at bambinis.

Two days ago I went to a restaurant I had never been to on a fairly big lake I had never been to. We saw a seaplane land and people were riding wave runners. Lots of people on the small beach there.

I go to new places all the time. New restaurant, new museum, new city, all sorts of new corners even nearby.

Last Saturday night I went to a new club in San Francisco to see live music. It’s called Doc’s Lab, in the basement of a restaurant called Doc Ricketts, on Columbus Avenue. It is where the old Purple Onion used to be in the fifties and sixties.

Earlier this year, the SO and I spent a week in Malta. While he had been there several times before, it was my first time there. What a wonderful country! Despite being so close to Italy and its influence, it maintains its own cultural differences, and proudly so. The country’s historical importance and its role in Christianity is well represented.

We also took another trip to Venice, Florence and several other cities in the Tuscany region of Italy. Both of us had low expectations based upon previous visits to the country. This vacation was different. It was slower paced allowing time to absorb the culture and learn about its history, particularly the Renaissance period.

I went to my friend’s apartment for the first time for a painting party this past Saturday.

This is me checking a text from the hubby while waiting for my painting to dry.

So, you were literally watching paint dry :D

(Nice painting, btw)

I’m a child care worker temp. The nature of my job is that I show up somewhere completely new with a dozen or more new little faces to care for and entertain for a day. I do it all in my second language with bus schedules and names I can hardly pronounce. Keeps me fresh.

A few weeks ago I went to a great museum a little more than an hour from home. It is in Hartford CT and it’s call The Wadsworth Atheneum. It’s the oldest art museum in the country, I believe. They had a great clothing exhibit called From Gothic to Goth which featured clothing from the 1700’s, the Victorian era and some modern stuff like steampunk costumes and Alexander McQueen. I went with my daughter, who is 8. We joined the museum so we got a little discount in the restaurant and store. It was a great day and we’ll be back, especially since we can go as often as we want for free now, since we’re members.

I want to go back especially to look more carefully at those clothes. I was trying to show my daughter the various types of fabrics, patterns, collars, skirts, bodices, bonnets, etc. to give her a new appreciation of styles of clothing.

Thanks, @Buttonstc – I had a bit of a problem following directions but I liked the end result.

I’m doing that right now! Haven’t been to L A in over 40 years, and even then it was just passing through, so everything we do,every place we go, is new for me.

After the pap smear moment at my docs this morning I decided I deserved a treat, so bought myself 4 cute little guazey summer dresses and got a massage. My Cervix looks healthy too. Pretty much a win/win day. lol

@Coloma was your doctor’s visit to your cervix the totally new place to visit? The dress shop? The massage parlour? Or did you post in the wrong place?

Sadly @ibstubro, it has been a long time since I’ve truly visited somewhere totally new. It would probably have been January when I visited St Helena Island. That’s a former prison island. I can’t think of anywhere else I’ve been recently that’s been a totally new place to visit. I should rectify this.

@Earthbound_Misfit Oh nooo…hahaha, I thought this was the ” What brought you joy today” thread. Never mind….sheepishly slinks away.

ibstubro's avatar

Yes, if you have the opportunity, @Earthbound_Misfit, you should visit something new, soon.

Report back…maybe we’ll get a vicarious thrill?

I also visited the mens room in a local Target yesterday and took an entire group of women that were waiting as the womens restroom was being cleaned. We just stormed the mens room, 6 of us, look out! lol

If the poor boys didn’t have shy bladder before, @Coloma, they do now.

@ibstubro LOL, it was a raid, no doubt.
