Who washes all the dirty clothes every single day?

Asked by MooCows (3216points) April 5th, 2016

My husband likes to have all the dirty clothes
washed and put up before bed nearly every day.
We live on a farm and get plenty dirty and muddy
and sometimes bloody if we are pulling calves.
Anyone else tidy up all the clothes before the
day is over?

Unless you have a full load, no, I would not wash clothes every single day. If he wants them washed, then he should do it himself, but I would think it would be costly on your water bill.

Wash the clothes every day? No. I can’t imagine it. Seems like a big waste of energy. The loads aren’t full are they? If the load is full I can see it. I know people with 3+ children who do laundry every day. I can see that being the case in that situation. I do laundry twice a week. It’s just my husband and me though. He gets his work out clothes really sweaty, so I ask him to rinse them and set them out to dry.

I’ve never heard of washing your clothes every day.
Do you each only own 2 pairs of jeans?

No. I wash clothes every other sunday when the loads are full.

I understand the need on a farm. I do a little carpentry, cement work, and painting at home and will wash those clothes in the evening.

When I was growing up, my mom did laundry just about every day except Sunday. But there were 7 of us, plus 7 towels and 7 sets of sheets, which meant at least one load a day.

I think your husband makes sense, better than having a laundry basket full of stinky work clothes over in the corner.

I wash at least one load each day. There are five of us in the home, so that usually means at least five dirty bath towels on top of the worn clothes I wash for myself, my husband and daughter. My adult sons wash their own clothes once a week.

Haaaaaaail nah. I’m doing well if I get it done every week. We can get by on once every 2 weeks, though we can dress a lot better if we do it every week, lol.

If I knew I needed to wash the clothes every day, because of how dirty the clothes get, I’d want the clothes to be ok to all wash together. If it’s jeans, then shirts, socks, and underwear that can all be thrown in together.

I wash my clothes about once a month. I don’t sweat or do enough manual labor to have to only wear something once. I’m not particularly germophobic, either. It takes so much water to clean them. I’m a dirty boy, I guess.

I do laundry once or a few times per week. I was recently at a resort where the washer/dryer was right in the unit, which made it really easy and convenient to do laundry. I was doing laundry several times per day. It was great and effortless.

I lived in my sisters basement when I was going through a few rough years. She had a 8 year old twin girls and a 15 year old boy.

I got cheap rent if I did the laundry and cleaned the kitchen everyday before she got home from school.

8 year old twin girls make a lot of laundry. I was doing about three loads a day. But a lot of that was them trying something on and not wanting to wear it and toss it in the dirty clothes pile. I didn’t really feel comfortable smelling their cloths to see if they were actually dirty. I can imagine my sister walking in and wondering why I was sniffing her daughters dresses. Better to waste the water and soap.

I recently fell way behind in my laundry because I was sick for over 2 weeks and I also had a visitor whose clothes were left to wash as well. I’m using this week to catch up, but I don’t have a dryer, so my house is decorated with drying racks of clothes.

Yes, when under sail. I usually wear only two changes of clothes while out and wash them daily by hand, in salt water and Dial liquid soap (the saltwater sailor’s friend) then drip dry. I use a fabric like Gortex® that wicks sweat well and dries in minutes, but can get awfully smelly after a trying day on deck in the tropical heat. Sometimes a rainstorm will do the job, too. The point is, you don’t want anything laying around loose and cluttering up a boat. It’s dangerous, so everything must be stowed properly in it’s place at all times.

On land, I usually do the wash on Saturdays (or Lördag, which means both Saturday and washday in Swedish ).

No that would use up too much electricity. Once or twice a week is more than enough.

I don’t have that kind of time, but if I was covered in dirt and blood and general nasty farmess, I might consider it.

Then again, I’d never live in a farm.

If I had clothes that got that mucky, I’d probably throw them in the washing machine and run the soak cycle or fill it with water. Then I would run the rest of the cycle when there was a full load. That way I wouldn’t have dirty, smelly clothes lying around the bedroom.

Faaack no. I have to use a laundromat.

It’s most economical for me to do the laundry about every two or three weeks. Then I can use the Big Machine, wash all the clothes at once, and use the Big Dryers to dry them.

It’s $22 every two weeks, or $18 every week if I use the smaller machines.

I wash the stuff that needs washing straight away like my daughter’s swimming costumes and towels. There is usually enough other stuff to make a full load. Otherwise I do it at the weekend. I use a tumble dryer in the winter and line dry in the summer. I don’t change towels after every shower – maybe twice a week. Definitely once a week at the weekends. They dry on heated towel rails after use. Sheets are once a week also.

I know someone who can’t go to bed with dirty clothes in the house. Everything has to be clean or in the machine getting clean before she goes to sleep. I think that is a waste of time and electricity/energy

I have a maid (it’s relatively cheap to hire one here) so all the clothes are hers to wash every single day.
