https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excoriation_disorder I’ve been piking my bumps on my arms and head for 20 plus years. It gives me a rush.

@RedDeerGuy1 What you describe is called “nose picker’s disease”.

@si3tech Ok thanks. I will see a doctor on the 28th of April. When I get my teeth cleaned. The doctors office is next door to the dentist.

It is an obsessive compulsive picking at your skin/scabs etc.(as described by a physician)

I do this when I am stressed and it is related to my dysmorphic problem. I can make a small bump on my face a bleeding sore and not notice it until I look in the mirror at night to brush my teeth. I have had a small bump on the side of my nose that, when going through periods of stress, I will make bleed. Right now, I have three areas on the left side of my face that I have picked and are at different stages of healing. I’ve had this problem since about 6th grade, which is about when my anorexia started. When the stress gets really bad, the picking stops and then only denying myself food makes me feel better. I haven’t been that bad in over a year, now. When I was going through my divorce, I got down to just below 50kg. It is something I have to be aware of and fight every day.

I do it to a small extent with the skin around my nails and with my cuticles. Often they bleed. My daughter is the same. For me it’s a boredom/anxiety thing: I am trapped in a meeting I don’t really want to be in and before i know it all my nails are bitten off and my fingers are bleeding. I’m doing quite well at the moment. My nails are about 2mm long and I only have 1 scabbed cuticle from yesterday and 1 bit of skin/cuticle that has nearly healed. I know I will pick at both of those again though. I have trained myself out of it to some extent as it used to be a lot worse. It seems to be a bad habit rather than a psychiatric condition with me.

My step sister went through a very anxious time as a pre-teen and pulled out her eyelashes. I think this is a similar condition

I do similarly to @Stinley although mine is much more stress related than boredom related.
